Thanks, I don't like seeing people just jump down others' throats.
I do...it makes for interesting reading...and at 5AM I need something to keep me awake.

2) Opinions should be able to be stated in an argument and not need to be backed up by sources.
Did you see this?:
There is still nothing wrong with posting an opinion.
However, members who post an opinion as fact, or repeatedly post the same thing, without adding anything new to further discussion, are going to have to adjust to the new rules.
Just my opinion
What are your sources? :D

Also, it may be worth your while becoming familiar with some of the major content-management systems out there if you have time (Wordpress, Joomla or Drupal - listed roughly in order of increasing complexity/power).
We messed with Drupal for a little bit and honestly at the time I wasn't a huge fan, but I think part of it was because I don't know PHP. I do think it's worth getting to know though, so I'll be working with it more. Might check out Wordpress too since people seem to like it.
Also, like someone else said, make sure your design is consistent across different browsers. Since you are learning, you're probably looking at a lot of divs and what not. Divs are nifty, but browsers don't agree with them 90% of the time. This means grabbing a copy of Windows, downloading Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8, and 9 to make sure everything looks correct. This is one of every designer/developers biggest complaints and why Internet Explorer is hated beyond words.
Yeah, I already didn't like Internet Explorer, but since I've started web design... I wish I could pretend it didn't exist.

EDIT: Sorry, posted this in the wrong forum.
I can't complain, I'm just curious.
I bought the Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach (the deluxe version) for just 1.49
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/plastic-beach/id358108041
I think the original price is 10.99? Is anyone else noticing this, or is it just me?

Well I really don't like taking chances after what happened to m other iBook G4 1.42:eek:. And I have to take my iBook to school back and forth everyday. Take it to school and then take it to my Mom's or my Dad's [whose ever day(divorced parents)]. And I really think that my iBook is going to get broken or something is going to happen. So my solution: get another computer. And the computer I'm going to get is the eMac. The iBook will come over if needed, but will primarily be used at my Dad's house. The eMac will be at my Mom's house. She is helping out A LOT - $500. I would use my PC but, she took it away from me as I was bringing my iBook over all the time so she was like, what they hey and gave it to my brother. I can't get it back. So, I'm stuck, and the eMac is the sollution.
Here are the specs:
512MB SDRAM DDR333 - 1 DIMM
160GB Ultra ATA drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW)
Internal Bluetooth Module + AirPort Extreme Card
Apple Keyboard & Mouse + Mac OS - U.S. English
1.42GHz PowerPC G4
ATI Radeon 9600 w/64MB DDR video memory
56K internal modem
Integrated stereo speakers
I'm really happy with those specs. I don't mind the CRT. I'm also getting a Mighty Mouse.
Order Subtotal: $1,032.00
Free Shipping: $0.00
Estimated Tax: $64.50
Estimated Total: $1,096.50
What do you think? Will this machine do me good? Should I save up some more for an iMac? (Money is limited)
I only need $351 for it.
Thanks,
Matt

What computer do you have? Do you have an express card slot?
If you do you can get an eSATA adapter.
SATA is not bus powered though.
Thanks for the kindhearted correction.
No problem. Trying my best to be an arse sometimes. ;)

I'll go against the grain and say keep what you have.
You stated you want to cut down on costs, so unless you are a business doing some funky accounting tricks, your equipment is already paid for. And it sounds like since you do Apple dev as a profession, you may kick yourself in the future for having sold the Mac Pro for a ****** Windows box when you pick up another contract.
I also do contract work, and wouldn't dream of selling my personal equipment I use for business unless it was literally a "sell the Mac Pro or lose my apartment" kind of deal.

The only way the keynote is going to be "worth it" ($300) is if I own Apple stock. :D Unfortunately I don't :(
Don't get me wrong, I am very happy to be here, but I am a little frustrated with the people working the conference. I attend and work at many conferences, and it just seems like everybody passes the buck at MacWorld. I also feel they need to be more clear on their online registration about what needs to be done if you want to see the different sessions.
The keynote is the main reason I wanted to go, but I figured I would be able go and sit in on a few things.
Just venting I suppose.
how much money did you save with that pass?
I really didn't save anything... it was a 2 day pass (which was all I would be able to stay for) and it cost $300.
My brother's pass is the one on the right and it cost $340. He can essentially get into anything except for the educator sessions all week long. I just assumed it was an educator discount, not an educator session.
I missed the first session because they were having computer issues this morning and the line wasn't moving. I went to go up to another session and they said I couldn't get in because I had to register for the session. I had no idea - didn't say it anywhere on my registration receipt anywhere. As a matter of fact they didn't send me the names of the sessions until last Friday.
As a high school band director, I don't know how much it would have helped to attend that particular session, but it beats sitting in the lounge all day browsing the internet.
I think I'm going to file a formal complaint with them.

If you have Snow Leopard Server, it's just a matter of turning it on once you have the server properly configured. Otherwise you will have to turn on the web server (System Preferences --> Sharing --> Web Sharing) and install wiki software. In either case, it's a fairly involved process. Much easier to go with a web hosting service where you just need to click to install.

Im from Sweden so sorry about my english (although "ration" was just my typing..)
:)
I was perfectly happy with the help you gave me though, it really helped!
The istopmotion comment was just because I was so surprised a program like that, which is really expensive in the first place, would do such a strange thing as just crop the image like that. I was just very surprised to see that..
Anyway, cropping my image in imovie, making it 16:9, then exporting it using HD and uncompressed format and then reimporting it turned out good. (I did a check on a 21 inch screen and it looks quite good. I never managed to get that quality on 4:3.
And another thing, I also looked into Dragon, but they wont let you important any photos that you have already taken imported with another program. Thats also kind of crazy I think, but nevermind..
Greetings and thanks again!

The best explanation is the shipping dates for all SSD-equipped iMacs are still heavily padded and reflect the expected worst-case scenario, not reality.
Regardless, many of us are tracking actual SSD-equipped 2011 iMac shipments here: 2011 Thunderbolt iMac w/ SSD Shipment Tracker (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1148415)

As far as a great resource for Mac OS X (Panther) you should check out David Pogue's "Mac OS X The Missing Manual (Panther Edition)". It will tell you eveything you'd ever want to know about Mac OS X, and then some. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a DL Expo show in NY. I'm sure his book will be a great help to you. Good luck, and welcome to the Mac world!

I hope that one day we actually do evolve as a species into something more enlightened rather than remaining the tool-wielding moronic savages that we are and have been since we split off from the rest of the apes.
