PM G5 Dual 2.0
OS: 10.4.11
My grandson (who shall remain nameless) changed the finder permissions on an USB external drive. This drive now mounts (a warning shows when drive is disconnected) but doesn't show up in the finder. I can't change the permissions unless I can get it to show up in the finder. I've also connected the USB drive to my MacBook Pro running 10.5 to no avail. I've used Unix (5.1d) on an Alpha box so I wouldn't be afraid to try to fix under Terminal emu. I have quite a few files I would like to get access/keep so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

wondered whether Starbucks being from Seattle was the choice there. Yet another Californian dig at Washington state
Probably some connection to the Rumor that Starbucks wants to put iTunes downloads in its stores.

I'm still waiting for Rovio to fix my angry birds freezing problem. Note to self, never update! Anyhow, I found this angry birds parody to sooth my angry birds addiction for another day.

Superb, you can enable multi-tasking gestures on this release.
The pinch to home screen works really well.

Hello everyone
I tried to run the Boot Camp Assistant, and got the following message:
"the Hard drive cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved"
Due to research it is my understanding that i should reinstall OS X
But i was wondering:
Can I partition my drive via disk utility and install windows that way?
Is there a way to move these unmovable files?
If I don't know where my original install disk is, what are my options?
thanks!

I have a Macintosh Classic with 2 motherboads both affected by the sima-sima syndrome (vertical lines, no startup). I have read in some sites that clean them in the dishwasher can be the solution, can someone confirm me if this is true or not?
Usually, the issue requires replacing the damaged capacitors as well. What dish washing resolves is cleaning the spilled "capacitor goo". If the capacitors are still bad, you won't fix much.
I'd suggest washing, then replacing *ALL* capacitors on the board.

If I lived in the UK I'd subscribe to GoMINI but it is soooo expensive to get over here! It works out to be about $10USD per issue.

You'll be surprised at how quickly and how much you can pick up just by playing round. Obviously books are good for exploring the more difficult/hidden aspects of the OS but it really is fairly easy to pick up. There are a few different things to get used to, like an app doesn't quit when you close it, but on the whole it makes a lot of sense...and remember keyboard shortcuts are your friends!

I dont know if this is the right forum but i just started learning after effects in on of my classes. My professor told us to make all the layers in illustator and import then you can edit each layer individually. So i did this and i also added other images in after as separate pngs. now after i saved it and reopened it everything that was made in the illustrator file is black. all the keyframes are still there just no image is showing up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would ask the teacher but he went out of town today till next wednesday.
Thanks

I would bet hard money on it, I can't stand Bose.
My brother has Bose and for me I would say the jay's or klipsh on and on not a Bose fan. With emi's or any speakers it's all a matter of opinion any way. Some like heavy bass some don't. Also different people hear different tones. Etc etc.

After the recent (4/29) update, my Launchpad is empty - curious if anyone else has the same experience. Launchpad attempts to load, then quits after 1/2 second.
Not terribly excited about LP - basically I have 'applications' and 'office applications' folders in my dock which pop out icons (without disrupting my screen) I would rather 'scroll down' my apps than scroll across in iOS fashion. Launchpad really isn't very useful on a two-screen desktop either. Might be useful on a MBP - but I don't have a spare partition on mine to give Lion a try.
Edit: Textedit.app crashes too - textwrangler is fine.

I have the Altec Lansing 2.1 FX 6021 speakers and they are awesome.
Unfortunately the sub blew and was searching for a similar type of audio performance/design/price range for 2.1 speakers.
Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!
I would go with M-Audio AV-40s (2.0 but good bass response) or Logitech Z-2300. Personally I use both. The M-Audio speakers are Pro-grade and provide really clear sound. The Z-2300's have good sound and more "power".
Cheers

Anyone have luck playing something in safari from the Amazon Cloud player? Works fine on my iMac but won't actually play on my iPad.

I don't think Mac Websites should be a category. and don't think individual sites should get their own wiki page.
In the future we can do a Guide to the Mac Web sort of collective page - the problem with that is competing interests amongst sites.
Also, individual sites can be linked from articles about their respective topics.
The wiki isn't designed to be a site index.

You have a point...and I hope it happens...but Apple may have to change the PowerBook as we know it to add more than just a SuperDrive...I just hope they don't go the way of the current trend in PC laptops. Way Too BIG!
