The only way the keynote is going to be "worth it" ($300) is if I own Apple stock. :D Unfortunately I don't :(
Don't get me wrong, I am very happy to be here, but I am a little frustrated with the people working the conference. I attend and work at many conferences, and it just seems like everybody passes the buck at MacWorld. I also feel they need to be more clear on their online registration about what needs to be done if you want to see the different sessions.
The keynote is the main reason I wanted to go, but I figured I would be able go and sit in on a few things.
Just venting I suppose.
how much money did you save with that pass?
I really didn't save anything... it was a 2 day pass (which was all I would be able to stay for) and it cost $300.
My brother's pass is the one on the right and it cost $340. He can essentially get into anything except for the educator sessions all week long. I just assumed it was an educator discount, not an educator session.
I missed the first session because they were having computer issues this morning and the line wasn't moving. I went to go up to another session and they said I couldn't get in because I had to register for the session. I had no idea - didn't say it anywhere on my registration receipt anywhere. As a matter of fact they didn't send me the names of the sessions until last Friday.
As a high school band director, I don't know how much it would have helped to attend that particular session, but it beats sitting in the lounge all day browsing the internet.
I think I'm going to file a formal complaint with them.

Are you using Increase? This makes the experience less painful on an Intel mac.

When you both view your connections locally (video setup) do they both appear normally? I have a feeling it may have something to do with the USB cam...

...the "quick switch" feature of iOS compatible applications also speeds up the launch of many applications significantly.
Elaborate on what you mean by "quick switch" please.

I have a 2.7ghz G5 and 4 months after buying it i'm now finding it a little sluggish. I've just done an xbench and it on average scores 106 compared to a 2ghz G5 (at 100) !! The finder is having problems changing between windows and I get beachballs randomly with simple tasks. Personally I blame 10.4.2 and perhaps dodgy crucial memory.
I would freshen up your system when 10.4.3 is released, maybe do a clean install. Consider a new graphics card ?
Then If you want to wait for the next best. Wait for an Intel Powermac since graphics cards etc are likely to be better aswell as speedier processors (although I expect most software updates to intel won't be free)

Read the warranty agreement. It says something to the effect of "Repair or replace at Apple's discretion". Just sell it on eBay.
Nice title for this thread BTW. Very descriptive.

Hi There. I'm having problems using Mainstage. I have an Oberheim OB3 Squared Organ drawbar module which I'm trying to use as a controller to control the drawbars via midi for the Hammond B4 2 plugin.
Has anyone used a drawbar module with mainstage?
Hope you can help.

I have a PDF file that was created from MS Word 2008 using the usual File->Print->PDF->Save as PDF routine. It renders fine in Preview and Adobe Reader, but apparently gets mangled by other applications that try to extract text from it.
I think this is due to the "/Filter /FlateDecode" compression, so I'd like to make a version of the document without compression that should be easier to extract plan text from.
I found an article on what seems to be the opposite, i.e. compressing a PDF using quartz filters in Preview. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/9021.html
Is there something I could do to undo this?
Thanks!
B

I'm interested. Now as long as I don't blow too much money on Black Friday, maybe I can make a real offer to one of the many G5 offers in the Marketplace!
I look forward to hearing back from you :) Happy shopping Friday

Firefox doesn't obey the system-wide settings. Safari should.
There used to be setting in about:config in Firefox, but it seems to be un-implemented and no longer there in Firefox 3.6.xx

I've been trying to do use several shortcuts with the "fat" arrowkeys but I don't have a "fat" arrowkey on my keyboard. Does it mean something else or am I just slow?

I remember when Ryan Block left Engadget and people were saying similar things, wondering about Engadget's future. Josh eventually grew into the role and now he's leaving. While it's sad to see him go, I'm sure someone else will eventually fill the spotlight.

Hi there,
I used a programme called Araxis Find Duplicate Files for this - worked very well. Seem to remember I downloaded it from the Apple site a long time ago, so It might well be in the App store.

I hate banks and how they ruin everyone who gets in their way..
If it was not for banks, we would not have the advances we do today.

WoW, Unreal Tournament, Need for Speed...eh....That's all I've played on the Macbook. The integrated graphics pretty much suck to high heaven, so game playing won't be pretty. Solitaire graphics do kicks ass when you are on a 12 hour shift though :p

Mostly Skyfire for my general browsing.
I like the ability to view Flash video and I like how it can easily be switched between iPhone view and Desktop view.

Since your machine is a 300mhz, it is a Rev 1 unit. These will NOT support more than 1 HD on the internal ATA bus. You best bet is to get an ATA pci controller card, and connect your HD's to it.
For the best performance and value, go with a Serial (SATA) card & drives......way faster, no size limits, and can be moved to new macs later.
And yes the pc133/256mb ram will work, it will just downclock itself to 100mhz. You can max it out to 1GB (256mb X 4)
As the others have said, dont try to run tiger @300mhz.....doggass slow it will be
You may also wanna consider a better video card, like the Radeon 7000 or 9200......really helps on older machines

This could just be situation of meeting mandetory continuing education at the lowest price. If you are a doctor, you are required to take a certain number of hours of continuing medical education. Same goes for attorneys and many other professions.
I'm not a teacher, but based on my experiences with continuing education, sometimes you take really weird classes to meet the mandated minimum requirements. I would not be surprised if the state paid for this program (especially if it was inexpensive) so its teachers could meet their requirements. That isn't necessarily a determination that the seminar is the state's policy on any particular issue.
I don't really know, just a hypothesis.

They probably wouldn't because it would require some pretty complicated hardware.
