I have the latest Boinc Client running and in the messaging center it says no useable gpus found?
So CUDA still isn't supported on the Macbooks Nvidia 9400m?
It's supported. You have to install the CUDA drivers though. It's available on the nVidia website.

I've always wondered why Apple doesn't use cdkeys for their OS. Not that I'm complaining, just curious is all.
It's reasonably difficult to install the OS on a non-Apple computer. So it's sort of a marketing strategy that keeps you roped in. And if you get a pirated/shared version of the OS that doesn't work on your old hardware, you're tendency is to go buy the new machine when the new software won't work with the old one.

I thought that this was interesting. I doubt anyone here would be able to afford it, but some of you may find it interesting to see. an Apple 1 is going up for auction with it's original packaging. (http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/lot_details.aspx?intObjectID=5370965) and it's apparently expected to go for about $200,000

Answer to original question: I don't know what possesses people to use WMV3 (which is actually Windows Media 9 video) in AVI files, but you're currently out of luck. WindowsMediaPlayer on the mac knows how to play WMV3, but it can't read AVI containers, so it's useless, and I know of no way to build the video and audio streams from an AVI file into an ASF file, at least on a Mac.
There are also no open source players that can decode WMV3, although a couple days ago the first foundations for doing just that were laid in the ffmpeg project, so eventually there will be options.
IMO, AVI is a stupid idea - having a container format that can use just about any codec is bound to cause confusion.
Like bankshot implied, that's an embarassingly ignorant comment, being that although AVI probalby isn't as good of a container format as MOV (less features), they're identical in that they both allow a huge range of video and audio formats, which is your complaint.
If you'd like me to demonstrate by making a MOV with a codec you can't play, it'll take me about a minute and a half.
The only difference is that most people who make MOV files stick to standard QuickTime codecs, whereas AVI, being much more popular for home-ripped files on the internet (where people seem to have an inexplicable urge to use bizzare codecs when there are far better and more popular alternatives available), has a huge range of oddball stuff people decide to use with them. You could easily do the same with QuickTime if you felt like it, though, and I'll bet if it was more popular people would.

My advice would be not to go for a bargain bin starter pack but instead scour eBay for a Gordon Smith GS1 (or GS2 if you're lucky.) These hand made British built guitars are absolutely fantastic and it will last you till your dying day. Both physically and professionally. I've sometimes seen them go for 225/250. As for amps why not get another British gem ... an H&H combo? I followed one last week that went for 26 but the shipping was prohibitive for me. They are superb amps. Very popular with the new wave scene like Bauhaus, Buzzcocks but also used by Pink Floyd & Mark Bolan. Sadly though they're a nuisance to search for with all the combinations possible. Might push your bill up to 300 but you'll be so pleased you did.

Are you talking about Bose Headphones or Bose speaker systems? I have a Bose speaker systme and I think it works great. I have auditioned the QuietComfort 15, QuietComfort 3, and the QuietComfort 2 (which was actually pretty decent for $450) and they aren't that good when it comes to headphones and IEM's.
referring to the IEM's I doalso love my CF-3's but they do take up the real estate. but they do crank the music.

...now when I make an alias and place it in the dock, when I sign out / quit the alias diappears...
Why are you making an alias and putting it in the dock? Just drag the original app into the dock, and it will always be there... no use for an alias unless you put it in a folder or desktop, or anywhere besides the dock.

Intel came up with the BTX form factor a little while ago. I have not heard from it since. Do a lot of PCs use this motherboard style? How about Dell?
Is it a possibility that future Macs will use it?
Gateway has been using the BTX for almost a year I believe.
Could any future Macs use a BTX MB? I suppose that anything is possible- who would have imagined Mac OS running on intel processors?!

Hi,
I searched with no success.
I had some garageband issues trying to download the guitar lessons. Several of them wouldn't download, giving me an error each time it tried. I deleted them all and tried to re-install them. It won't work. I deleted .plist file, as suggested on the apple forums.
When I open garageband, and select Learn to Play, it has a selection at the bottom "Visit the lesson store..." When I try to visit the lesson store, I get an error stating The lesson store is temporarily unavailable" I've gotten this for 2 days now.
Any ideas?

I think Apple would disappoint a lot of music lovers and more 'serious' listeners if they discontinued the Classic. There is no other iPod/iPhone with that kind of storage capacity.

I usually end up checking out those kinds of books at the library anyways.
Thanks for the reminder that it is April 1st. I'll make sure to print out a fake eviction notice for my wife. ;)

Who really cares about watching DVDs on a wii. I have a wii and i am not complaining about no dvd playback. I have a DVD player, like almost everyone else. I admit though, it is kinda cool, but not useful.

Hi everyone,
My Xcode 4's Organizer window shows that my provision profile should be valid for 10 more days, and yet, when I select iOS Device to test my app, Xcode reports that it cant find any provisioned devices. Does anyone have any idea how I can troubleshoot this problem? (I just installed the provisioning profile today, since my previous one had expired five days ago. I also have Xcode 3 installed in another folder, don't know if that affects anything).
Many thanks for any info.

Hello freedomb,
It sounds as though your client isn't happy with the job that Live Trace did, and I'm guessing that depends on what kind of image you have been supplied. E.g. a monochrome caricature is an ideal candidate for a Live Trace, but a company logo generally won't fare so well. You might need to spend some time adapting / redrawing the parts that Live Trace has failed on. It is hard to make a proper judgement without some further details.
Cheers,
Razzerman

If its a Vizio from any of the VO lines, hit the Vizio button (or menu), go to setup and on the screen options, choose WIDE. It sees that the iPad is 4:3 and is treating it like a 4:3 television channel.
It might also be called Stretch, or Panoramic.

Back in the early nineties, actors coupled with CG was the rage.
There were lots of games that had live actors coupled in with the extremely limited CG of that time. :)

With Mass Effect 3, I want the inventory system back -- on the PC ME's inventory setup was OK, as it was more manageable. The weapons locker made sense in ME2, but being able to pick up loot was still was something I wanted and later when I found a weapon's locker in the middle of a battle, this system lost all credibility and showed why an inventory system is essential.
With ME3 they absolutely have to get rid of the mission complete screens. This killed ALL continuity making the game feel arcade-ish. I know load times were slow on the console, but this is not the case on the PC. I'll take longer load times over something that makes a game feel like it belongs in an arcade.
AND, even thought I like mineral mining, if they eliminated this and gave me back vehicle exploration I'd be REALLY happy. I know that on the console the tank's aim system was less than ideal. All they needed to do was implement the PC method, in which aim is independent of movement and all would have been fine. The newer Firewalker vehicle is LAME IMO. Fun to a degree, but overall way too arcade-ish.
Anyways, I really liked the combat improvements to ME2, but only after I could once again use separate keys to do all the actions. The single-action key I mentioned earlier absolutely SUCKS and needs to go by default. So if in ME3 I get a similar combat system, I'd be happy -- I beat ME2 on its hardest setting.
