Don't get me wrong. Apple IS competing against the world of WinTel, and they aren't doing so well in speed or price. I, for one, like it just as much when people have legitimate complaints as when they have a legitimate complement. If we just accept the way things are, they'll never get better. Macs are easier to use, more stable, etc, etc... but they're not as fast. And "Apple is a business" is not a good excuse. It just proves my point. So stop saying, "if you don't like it go buy a PC".
Cuz they will. Duh.
If the new Dual 1.25s are as fast as a ~2 GHz x86, I'd be happy. Have you ever tried to edit video on a PC? Zero to Crash in 60 sec. If the iBook can do some basic stuff like typing letters and surfin' the net, and it's pretty affordable (and light, and sturdy, and has a long battery life), I'm happy. Benchmarks, shmenchmarks, it's real world performance that counts.
When I feel like Apple's acting like M$ (yeah, that's right, I said it), and a >$1000 PC can whip the *** of the $3000+ "Top-of-the-Line" Mac, I'm not happy.
And believe me, yer gonna hear about it.
Now where are the darn 7500 G5s we were promised (please note sarcasm).
agreed - except essentially, it IS a 1 ghz chip thats passed its acceptance for 1.25. At least a p3 and p4 have large architectural differences!
as of late, Apple IS acting like M$ - teh DDR marketing spin is just that - "ooh !look!! a new buzzword gullible buyers!", whilst in 'real world performance' I am yet to be impressed with Jagwire on my iBook. (under 10.2, Word currently lasts an average of 20 minutes before crashing and it is also DOG SLOW handling more than a 20 page document.....grr....not good for thesis writing! this is the kind of real world performance issue I'd like to see addressed - you can keep ichat etc if your web browser crashes or takes noticeable seconds to render tables and images...)
Personally, teh current register jagwire review sums my feelings up exactly.

There are several ways you can go about it, but yes, you will have to create a alternate directory with new ui templates. You can then add in the user agent code to sniff what sort of browser/device is looking at your site.
For my personal site we shift it to mobile.chicowebdesign.com, but for our other clients site, we use php and keep the url angrybirdstees.com for both mobile and traditional.

Hi all, i have SQLite table where my records stays as:
Antenna
Apple
April
Buffalo
Ship
Pill
..
To be able to display them on sectioned UITableViewController, i query the first letters from these records and create an array with them. Then for each letter in the array, i again query table and get each records starting with that letter. I guess you got the idea.
Since i do these operations in the app, it takes quite time (3-4 seconds) and app pauses in those seconds. I was curious if i can create those arrays and store somehow in the system. I can re-create them when i update the data time to time.
Thanks a lot in advance..

I purchased one from ifixit.com brand new about 6 months ago and it died a couple weeks ago. I went back today and they have none in stock. I checked on eBay and they have after-market ones that look like they will do more harm then good. Is there anyone else that sells apple parts?

I don't think the differenct between 1 GHz and 800 MHz is going to be noticeable.
Why even make a 933 MHz???
Seem like a waste to me.
Anyway I would like to see a better video chip, heat issues resolved and maybe the crappy paint fixed.

You'd need an OS for the VM. You could look at Crossover to see if that would work. No OS required.

Hey EJBasile, I am glad to hear that you and your girlfriend are ok after the crash. All I can say is THANK GOODNESS you were not in this vehicle when it happened!

I think that goes along well with this thread on why vehicles need to be designed with safety in mind.

wOow... now that's something: after ~10 years since videocalling feature was firstly commercial available, seems that iPhone will (maybe/probably/hopefully?) get it in 2010 with a front camera. Now that's a fast to market thingy... not to mention the MMS. :o
Way to go Apple! :D

Seems like a lot of people have been having similar issues. Tried the old standby- re-starting the computer. That did it for now.

The cases are deep. I've got a 1U RM Xeon that doesn't fit under a desk, I really don't have anywhere to put it. A friend passed the server on to me after his office, a major voip provider, closed and let him take a bunch of stuff.
If you're eying one, make sure you have room, my server is nearly 1 yard deep :O

I just bought a pair on ebay but they do not power up. I was going to try and get my money back but I could sell them to you. The speakers look perfect in them. I am not sure why they do not power up.
Let m eknow if you are interested.
Thanks!

My old SD9HD died with a leaking battery. Motorola made me quite laugh when they told me they want 16'000 yen for repair cost ( with testing :( ). When I bought it it was 14'000 yen; still a rip off here in Japan. Now it's new 16'000. Don't know what they are thinking. At they should be honest and tell me: sorry, no repair; please buy a new one. But I kind of liked it, good sound, easy to put on the head and the power connector was a micro USB; easy to recharge via iPhone charger or regular USB port.
A colleague has a Sony headset; I kind of liked it with respect to sound and design; very similar to SD9 but lighter. Until I saw the power connector: Sony-style specific; would need to carry a dedicated charger with me all the time. Dislike that.
What other headset you guys have positive experience with ? Charging via USB is kind of k.o. criteria.

Apple almost doubled their units sold and markershare drop. Profits are up so I'm guessing it's not a big deal for Apple.

The ORF (Olympus RAW) file has an identifier string for the camera, if this string doesn't match a camera on Apple's list of supported cameras, the file won't open. However if you go in and edit the string from "E-PL1" to "E-P2 ", Aperture will open it no problem. I even wrote a python/automator program to perform this on E-PL1 RAW files so they can be opened in Aperture.

Not recognizing the same format just because of a different model name? That's kinda stupid. Now Apple will have to keep putting out updates just to change a 1 to a 2 or something.

Wow, I didn't realize today is the 10th anniversary of OSX. I remember loading the beta on my G4 Cube and then waiting anxiously for 10.0 to be released. It was quite a change from System 7/os8/os9 that I was running.

I personally don't think so. I have the iPhone 4 and the gps is much improved to the crappy 3G and 3GS gps antenna. I dont lose signal on the iPhone 4 gps unlike the old 3GS... If anything buy a cradle, charger, and aux imput and ur good.

Good question - specs follow:
MacBook Pro
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Ram
250 GB HDD
Those are the most general specs - not sure how to get more data... but let me know if needed.
Is going refurb a bad idea? I was thinking that as soon as I use it, it is "used" anyway...

Heh, I actually didn't care who the celebrity was. Just felt like posting on a thread that was already sold, plus notified mods to lock it but mods are apparently too busy to respond .
I guess this is as good a place as any to hang out.
So... what's up? *nods slowly, contemplating life*

i can do anything with beejive that i can do when i've used whatsapp, but have the advantage that i can also talk to people that don't have smart phones.....
BBM is a gimmick that is dying, look at the fact that RIM are now working on making BBM work on android and iOS... desperation there....
Wait so they're making BBM work for all phones? Making it a cross platform messenger thing?
