News stories and rumors sometimes produce contentious debates in forum threads. The same is frequently true of threads in the Politics, Religion, Social Issues forum. When users have strongly differing opinions, they have the privilege as forum members to express their opinions but not the right to insult or belittle each other. This has long been the site policy and the basis for forum moderation.
Starting today we provide a set of Rules for Appropriate Debate to further clarify what's appropriate and what's inappropriate when posting in a debate. These rules reiterate the prohibitions in the general forum rules against personal insults, name-calling, and trolling, but also add specific requirements, e.g., that users be willing to provide a basis for claims of fact, that they avoid stereotypes and generalizations that constitute trolling and inhibit constructive debate, and that they not belabor a point by repeating it without adding new information. This will improve the quality of forum discussions in news threads, political threads, and other discussion threads.
Why?
Discussions of disputed topics too often devolve into personal flamewars that are of no benefit to other forum users and add little to our forums.
These rules are designed to set minimum levels of civility and encourage fact-based debates, not to promote or inhibit any point of view. We don't expect to change human nature, nor prevent users from having strong disagreements. As always, you can express almost any opinion in the forums but you must do so in an appropriate manner. Only members who have made at least 100 posts in counted forums can post in the Politics, Religion, Social Issues forum, but these rules apply to all forums.
We hope the responsibilities of forum users are clear from the guidelines we provide, but it's difficult to apply a fixed set of rules to human language. That's why the moderators use common sense in applying the forum rules and keep the reasons for the rules in mind. So should you.
Your part
The moderators have worked hard to develop these refinements to the forum rules, but your support is the real key. We invite users to set a good example in the forums, even in contentious debates, and to look for opportunities to inform and learn from others. If you see problems in the forums, please report them to the moderators.
If you have questions about any forum rule, you are welcome to use the Contact (http://forums.macrumors.com/sendmessage.php) form to ask us about it privately or to post in a Site and Forum Feedback thread to ask general questions about rules and policies. You can post in this thread if you have questions or comments about the Rules for Appropriate Debate. Use the Contact (http://forums.macrumors.com/sendmessage.php) form if you want to talk to us about a specific instance of moderation or member discipline.

The iMac will be better in the long run. You get an incredibly nice screen, a nice keyboard, a mouse that should be thrown in the trash as soon as you receive your package, and much better hardware than you would from the Mac Mini.

Personally, I think LTD is fake... he's having a laugh in his role as uber Fanboi.
Well its hard to take him serious and its bind boggling to think any human being would have such love, devotion and blind following directed towards a multibillion dollar corporation..
His posts are so fantastical and they generally fail to add to a conversation, that I've put him on my ignore list a while ago and it makes reading these threads in the Apple, Industry and Internet Discussion forum much more enjoyable.

Sadly for Michael Jackson he was the cash cow for the rest of the family. This saga is going to be just like Elvis, John Lennon, etc. etc. They will be discovering unknown tapes for years. It could be unfinished work, rejected work or even stuff that Michael just did for his own amusement but it won't matter, there will be MJ fans out there who will buy anything. The Jackson family led by Joe will just be eying the cash.
:(
Sadly, I must agree. The only Jackson making money from his/her own success now is Janet.
I had read in an article published just after MJ's death that claimed several albums' worth of finished or nearly finished songs from throughout his career that were not included on his official releases. Either MJ or the producers didn't think the songs would fit thematically or there simply wasn't enough room and the record company wouldn't cough up the up-front costs for manufacturing a 2-disc set. So yeah, there will be "new" material for some time to come.
There were rumors of Joe trying to turn MJ's three kids into a new generation of performing Jacksons. Thanks goodness that appears to be off the table for now.

These are great replies. Thanks to everyone who gave their thoughts. And a big thanks to r0k for your long and detailed experience. This was the concern I had and I really appreciate you takin the time to warn me.
Also, thanks for telling me about the timemachineditor.app. I definitely would like to reduce my backup frequency.

I've bought a used mac mini as well as a larger/faster hard drive that I plan to replace the existing hard drive with. I'm pretty new with replacing hardware o I'm not sure what the best way would be to install snow Leopard on the new disc.
What I'd like to have is a new drive with a fresh install. I could care less about any of the existing files from the original hard drive so I don't need to back anything up. My question is can I install the new hard drive and then just insert Snow Leopard or do i have to do something else? Thanks for the help.

Dictionaries are in /Library/Dictionaries/
Each Dictionary is a bundle (with a .dictionary extension). Within each dictionary bundle in the resources is a (localised) xml file called <DictionaryName>.xml. You can parse the xml (the format looks quite simple) to get all the keys (and definitions if you want).

No unfortunately you can only send text messages to phones of the same collor. You may want to jailbreak it and see if there is a cydia app that will allow for this:o
Uhh, just kidding, you just send the text to her phone number.... Sheesh...
Not sure I understand - If I were to forward each of her text threads (conversations) to my iPhone - then switch iPhones - then forward them back to her new phone... they would have the conversations attached?
Thanks

Is the screen durable on these? I never bought one yet because I already had a 5G nano, and I didn't need one. However, the screen on my 5G nano, just took a dump, and I'm contemplating one of these. However, I'm not very nice to my iPods. So I need to make sure the touch screen will take a beating before I buy one.

The "In Time-Out" title was never intended to be a warning to other users.
It works as a great warning though. At least I've noticed where the line goes (of course every mod may have a different policy on this but generally) when you get timed-out by following some heated arguments.
I don't see the gossips as an issue. If someone asks, you can provide him the link to Forum Rules and tell that it's very likely that the guy who got timed-out broke the rules.

Yeah, you can adjust exposure using adjustment brush. These are all adjustments available with brush tool. Hope this helps.
Mike
AWESOME.
Cant wait to install the trial. So sick of Aperture. I can not believe they dont allow exposure brushing. Sure, they let you brush in shadows/highlights, but that (AFAIK) does not draw on the extra stops of DR from the RAW, it simply manipulates the pixel, leaving MUCH to be desired.

Hey,
So I got a new 11" MacBook Air with the ext. SuperDrive and am looking to install Windows 7 on it.
Fired up Boot Camp and downloaded the drivers... crawled along slowly but surely (looked like it would take ~1 hour to complete) and decided to take a quick shower while waiting.
15 minutes later I got back to the Mac and was surprised to see that it had completed the download already, and was prompting me to transfer it to some form of external media. Burned it to a CD-R, verification was OK and all seems well.
Just anal about things like this and I'd like to see if anyone could verify that the exact file size is '559,398,912 bytes' (559.4MB on disk)(this is on a CD, not a flash drive)? Just worried since the download seemed to have completed unusually quick, on my normally slow-as-molasses network (oh, and someone on another forum mentioned that the file was 562MB...)
I would get a MD5 hash but don't know any checksum checkers for Mac OS X.
Thanks!
