Back in 2002 I saw a Mac Plus being used in the University of Iowa main library's shipping department. It appeared to be running an ancient version of Microsoft Excel.
I'm more into Apple IIs than Macs, and I've seen some evidence of them in the wild. The Apple II's expandability made it an early favorite of scientists who needed to interface it with a variety of instruments, and it seems it's still hanging around. Examples:
An Apple II Plus (manufactured 1979-1983) being used at Dartmouth for lower-level physics labs:
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~physics/labs/descriptions/ball.spring.html
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~physics/labs/descriptions/projectile.motion.html
The pages are dated 5/21/2004 and 6/16/2004. Identified in the equipment list:
1 Apple II+ computer
2 monitors
1 video camera
1 imagewriter printer/paper
2 AppleStrobe software disks
http://www.easyscreens.info/gallery/20100830/3.jpg
An Apple IIe (from the look of it, a pre-Platinum model, which would place it 1983-1986), being used with a Finnigan MAT-251 mass spectrometer at the Earth Systems Center for Stable Isotopic Studies at Yale:
http://earth.geology.yale.edu/escsis/escsis2006.ppt (PowerPoint file - page 3 shows the setup)
It seems the Apple IIe was the standard controller for the MAT-251. They had this setup as of but their homepage now notes: "The system has been retired and cannibalized long ago." :(
http://www.easyscreens.info/gallery/20100830/4.png
Another Apple IIe, used with another mass spectrometer, at the Trofimuk United Institute of Geology in Novosibirsk, Russia:
http://list.uvm.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0512&L=ISOGEOCHEM&P=R6818
The post is dated 12/15/2005:
We have some troble with Apple IIe computer which is operating of MAT
Delta mass-spec.
Only symptom is blinking of all leds, including leds in floppy slots, in
keyboard and power on led inside the computer.
Power unit was checked and is Ok.
Any advise will be highly appreciated.
Six days later, he fixes it the old-fashioned way:
http://list.uvm.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0512&L=ISOGEOCHEM&P=R8422
On case anybody still playng with such old machine.
Symptoms: nothing working. All leds are blinking. Screen is also
blinking. Power unit looks Ok. Live looks horrible.
Solution: do not believe to your tester!!! Replace ALL electrolytic
capacitors in Power unit.
Strictly speaking, I doubt it was necessary to replace all the capacitors, but as someone that still goofs around with a soldering iron, I was gratified to see him doing this level of repair. :)
I'd bet money on the Russian Apple IIe still being in use!

CS4 was a nightmare on my Mac, so I couldn't wait for CS5. But it's been pretty underwhelming for me. While the Adobe apps no longer crash continually, they are really sluggish in SL. PS images opened faster on my old PowerMac G5 with CS1. Even GIMP running through X11 is faster. Flash is still an incomprehensible mess, and getting worse instead of better. I don't know where to lay blame for Adobe's products, but in the end it only will hurt Apple. When I see others running CS5 flawlessly on a PC, I start to think maybe it's time to switch back....

BioShock Infinite is currently planned for release during calendar 2012.
Ugh, I just now caught this little detail. That's gonna be a long wait! I'm really liking the look of this game.

Mactheknife has it about correct, although you might not notice as much of a speed decrease if you go for the faster TiBook. Web surfing under OS X will be your biggest complaint (both speed and stability). While this is definately a problem with the browsers more than the OS, it's a problem with ALL the browsers right now. Major pain. Apple should really light a fire under the browser developers as this is a major drawback to the Mac right now.

So I've brought this up in various places other than mac rumors, and as you can probably tell I'm a new member so I'm not sure if this has been brought up before. I am a huge fan of the iPhone and maybe part of it has to do with a fanboy mentality. I have the iPhone 4 and love it. A lot of people I know at school have blackberries and one of the only and most important reasons they have one is because of BBM. Everyone seems to be a huge fan of bbm-ing and getting people's pins and I have to say the idea of it is pretty enticing. I realize many of you will probably say "it is the same as texting" but it does have its differences. Also, people might say "they have tons of apps that already do this". The problem with that is that you have to convince people to get that same app. Currently I use whatsapp, which works well but only a select few people have it, those who I had to convince to get it. What I was thinking is why doesn't apple have a native app for iPhone to iPhone messenger similar to BBM? Seems like a good idea to me, just a thought though.
i don't bother with whatsapp or anything like that, i just use Beejive, which uses msn, yahoo, gtalk, facebook chat, etc all in 1 app, so whichever my friends use, they're there, just add my existing accounts. simples :) my friends use that, or ebuddy or trillian to do the same on their devices, be it blackberry, android or iphone.

Probably that crazy guy who sold an iPhone for $120.
Heh, I actually didn't care who the celebrity was. Just felt like posting on a thread that was already sold, plus notified mods to lock it but mods are apparently too busy to respond .

Sony's biggest mistake was in not enabling online multiplayer for Wipeout:Pure - a AAA game otherwise - as well as certain other games such as Hotshots Golf. I ended up playing both of those MUCH in online multiplayer down the road using my xlink kai the airport card in my powerbook as a wireless point. This was a free service (used in conjunction with Amarylis and Kaid OSX Menu free software in OSX) that used the PSP's ad hoc functionality (intended by Sony for local multiplayer) to achieve remote multiplayer. Was awesome (especially in wipeout up to 4-5 players) BUT the only people to play against were the same handful of folks savy enough to figure out how to get the thing to work - or even know of xlink kai in the first place. IF the multiplayer had been provided directly by Sony, the PSP would have really taken off and never have slowed down. Yeah there was Socom, but by then it was really too late in the public eye, especially current/former PS2 owners.
1-2 years ago I wrote a good number of posts here at MR on the PSP (including xlink kai), homebrew, etc.

I'm a great lover of greens & browns. I also love floating bookshelves when you have no floor space. Note the small area rugs, one is a shag which gives the room a warm feeling. Stay away from too much white, too hard to keep clean. Not everyone likes pictures on the walls but I love landscapes myself. You can buy a poster and buy a frame for it, this is a lot cheaper than paying a framer. I find some great stuff in flea markets, lamps, blankets, pillows, pictures. In one picture a wall is covered with old planks to give it a warm rustic flavor. Another has the walls painted different colors. Do you have a favorite photograph? What colors are in it. You have to make a small collection of what you like, no matter the cost, this chair, that painting, this suit, that jacket and be creative. Figure out what it is you like about them and find a cheaper substitute.

Well I put the Xbox 360 on ebay. My user name on there is rhelfrey. If you wanna check it out go ahead. I am still taking offers here if you have anything to trade. I can cancel the auction anytime. I'm sorry that some people are upset that I am doing what everyone else is doing but I have debts to pay and I'm also a student so it's going to help me a lot next semester.

I was planning on going to the Apple Store in Baton Rouge this evening, but since the line has already started forming, I'm just going to stay in Lake Charles and go to the Derek Drive store. I was the first person last year in line at this store. I'll be there around 12ish. Anyone else planning on going?

I would definitely work on improving the lighting. Maybe some better lamps? And, yes, definitely put up some wall art. Your space needs color!
Is that other room a grow house? ;) Could you move one of the plants to your main bedroom?
Also, mirrors can help a small space feel larger and/or more open.
Good luck!

2 possible issues: A faulty Memory Riser which shorts out when a certain slot is filled, or the pairs you have are not recognized as matched so it gets confused.
Follow the riser order for matching pairs as stated in the guide I linked below, start with the first pair of slots and work up, testing as each pair is added, this method should identify the unmatched pair or faulty riser slot. If this is the problem.....

Are you using the Firewire cable? The USB cable should sync it, but it will not charge. It's possible it's flaking because of this, but if you're using the FW cable, I have no idea.

Whenever I download an image from my iPod touch to my MacBook through Cyberduck, Transmit, MacFusion, or any other sftp program, the images I copy to my mac are always 100% transparent, no mater what the image is. Themes, app images, system images, everything, they're ALWAYS transparent. It's very, very, very annoying to email files, one at a time, to and from my iDevices. Is there any fix for this? I've got iPod touch 2g, MB model, 4.2.1 os, jailbroken with redsnow.

One might use #include for a C header or from a C source file. You can do it either way from Objective-C code. If the header is a C header then there should be no real difference.

ETA, thats great. How exactly do you have it setup?
IMO Using the aggregate soundcard function is not a permanent solution.
Its much better to have the all the audio coming in/out of one device.
You will get much greater sound quality, reliability and less latency using one device.
This will be very important if you want to/end up djing outside your own home.

^^ I do realise 150+ is alot to spend initially but in the long run you will see the benefits outweigh the cost.
The phrase "buy cheap buy twice" is worth thinking about.
