Yes, it is scary when you are in a hospital and the power goes off. I have had it happen also. In each incidence the backup generator kicked in as scheduled. In the summer, could hear the motor start.
Just glad that everyone is alright. I can visualize exactly what went on in the OR and CCU areas of the hospital.
A time when windows really help.

If the majority of programs you use are Windows programs, you would be better of purchasing a Windows laptop. Virtual PC is an irritatingly slow program in my opinion, especially on a G4.

The only way the keynote is going to be "worth it" ($300) is if I own Apple stock. :D Unfortunately I don't :(
Don't get me wrong, I am very happy to be here, but I am a little frustrated with the people working the conference. I attend and work at many conferences, and it just seems like everybody passes the buck at MacWorld. I also feel they need to be more clear on their online registration about what needs to be done if you want to see the different sessions.
The keynote is the main reason I wanted to go, but I figured I would be able go and sit in on a few things.
Just venting I suppose.
how much money did you save with that pass?
I really didn't save anything... it was a 2 day pass (which was all I would be able to stay for) and it cost $300.
My brother's pass is the one on the right and it cost $340. He can essentially get into anything except for the educator sessions all week long. I just assumed it was an educator discount, not an educator session.
I missed the first session because they were having computer issues this morning and the line wasn't moving. I went to go up to another session and they said I couldn't get in because I had to register for the session. I had no idea - didn't say it anywhere on my registration receipt anywhere. As a matter of fact they didn't send me the names of the sessions until last Friday.
As a high school band director, I don't know how much it would have helped to attend that particular session, but it beats sitting in the lounge all day browsing the internet.
I think I'm going to file a formal complaint with them.

I was looking at the mac mini with snow leopard server. I would use it for my work, but I have a few apps on the current server that only run on windows. Is there a way that I can run those apps on the mini server? I know I have a couple of programs that use microsoft.net.

I think a PDA is a much better idea than a phone. I'm happy with my sprint PCS cellular, and I'm not happy with my Palm Pilot. If Apple does come out with a PDA, it had better have a lite version of OS X, and not run the stupid Palm OS software.

I'm not entirely sure what to tell you. Perhaps you figured the sizes incorrectly? Or, the older backups are not yet deleted.
Personally, I'd advise against using your backup drive for anything else. You can do it but you run a little more risk of data loss. If you are careful it would be ok but considering that those external drives are so inexpensive I'd just buy another one.

OK, is Drive Genius an appropriate program for this? (scanning for bad sectors) If not, can anyone recommend something?

Been on line since 7:00AM. At 8 they let in 7 people. It's now 8:44 and nobody has yet emerged with an iPhone. This is taking WAY longer than it should!
How long is the line there. I drove by the Fairfield store and the line was long, definitely longer than the amount of phones they have.

I wish that was possible. But commuting to school full time, going even a week or two without a computer isn't that possible.

Is there a way to leave the Contacts alone on the phone?
I just got the phone , sync'd it and everything else.
On windows address book, there's no phone numbers.
I went on the phone to "Contacts" and edited everything the way I want it.
Is there a way to make it so next time I sync the phone, the contacts on it stay as they are? I don't want it to sync from the windows address book again Cause I'll probably lose everything I just edited.

Not bad. You could however make it more simple and just have 'iPod + Life'. you know like iPod + Nike or whatever it is. :)
Or Microsofts 'Windows XP + an amazing experience' :p Its amazing how original they are.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll upload that as a separate entry, because I like both that and my original.

Am I the only person who liked the fat nano?
nope i knew a ton of people that had it and loved it.
And I'd rather get a long touchscreen (2.5 inches?) for the next gen. Sort of like if you would put 2 6th gen nanos together side by side.

Do you guys think that AIR could be referring to "Apple Itunes Rentals?
hmm... then wouldn't air be in quotes like: There's something in the "air". or A.I.R.?

So, I got my Newton eMate 300 that I bought off eBay. The listing said it didn't hold a charge, surprise, surprise, I stuck the charger on a bit and have been using it on my couch, on my bed, outside, etc with no power adapter for about 6 hours now...
So, when my dad brings home a serial cable for me, and I get a wireless card, I want to know of any internet applications I can use on this baby? I know there's a text browser that you can run from a Linux shell, is there anything like that for Newton OS?

I bought my iMac in October here are my thoughts:
1. I started with the $1,199 model and did a few upgrades.
2. I upgraded to the 2 TB internal HD. I bought an external 3 TB USB drive and dedicated it entirely to Time Machine. I haven't looked at my hard drive space in a year and a half, so my brain is free to think about other things. Also, I have no worries about getting that old file or email that I deleted because "I'll never need this again".
3. I didn't upgrade the CPU. The basic model is fine for almost all games.
4. I bought Apple Care and used it extensively the first three or four months - not for hardware problems but for "this doesn't work" problems (I had a problem with iPhoto Faces and a few other issues). I like Apple Care as it removes one more cause of worry.
5. One-on-one I didn't use. I'd advise it if you're a "my time is worth something" person like I am. One technique I use is to consider my free time worth about $50 an hour. If I can save a couple of hours swimming through the internet for solutions to problems by using one-on-one, I'd go for it.
6. Just get Microsoft Office. It's the standard and if you don't get it, someone will send you, your wife, or your kids a Word file that just looks weird when you open it in Pages. Same for Excel and Numbers.

This sucks I work at Costco and I know for a fact that because Apple gave a exclusive deal to SAMs Costco got mad and when supplies of ALL Apple products run out at Costco there will be NO more! No iPods or iTunes gift cards of any kind. This is Costco's way of playing hard ball with Apple. Each Costco building sold about $200k of Apple products per month!!! That WILL affect Apple! After all Apple should know that Costco will offer FAR better service for iPad sales than Sams! Eventually Apple WILL come around and Costco will begin to sell Apple products again
What kind of "exclusive deal"? And BTW, wouldn't that loss of $200k a month have also have a substantial negative impact for Costco then for Apple? If that number is true we are talking about $100 000 000 per month in declined sales.
