It's a niche market for now, and most users don't use it at all. But once peripherals start using TB, it will become more widespread. But peripheral manufacturers won't rush out products until there is a good install base of computers that support TB. For that to happen, Apple will need to support it throughout its product line. Whether that happens this year or by the beginning of 2012 depends on when the products get updated. All new Macs will have TB.
Of course, if it's limited to Macs it will still be a niche market. Unless it's adopted by the PC market, it could become the next FireWire (superior to USB in many respects, but not omnipresent like the latter). In addition to hard drives and monitors, I think we'll soon see TB connectors on scanners, cameras and more.
In terms of bandwidth, the desktop can do better by using other cards in PCIe slots. On the laptops though, it offers more bandwidth than they've had access to previously (eSATA ExpressSlot cards aren't anywhere near as fast as TB is).
TB is convenient for laptops and devices as well, which is expected to help promote adoption for that market (i.e. see single disks on TB, and allow for others to be connected to a single port via Daisy Chaining). And Intel's aimed this at all computer users (even seen a phone advertised with TB), so it's not exclusive to Apple. So I do expect more devices to actually ship within a year or so as adoption increases (need more systems to release that are currently in development, as like you, I do see a bit of a "chicken and egg" situation).

You should be able to... even if it is a fairly old drive with SATA I (1.5Gbps). If your mac is recent, it has a SATA II bus (3Gbps).
Apart from the speed difference, which will be limited by the drive, it should work OK.

It takes the system a few hours to update to your new access abilities, so no need to worry.

Okay, so it's oversized and you're not offering anything for sale.
Have I missed something somewhere?

Can't decide whether to head out to the Westchester or the Palisades Park Mall--the reason why PPM sweetens the deal is because of the Invisible Shield kiosk that is no doubt set up right outside that Apple Store!
I'd guess the mall at the Palisades is a lot longer.

Does anyone know of the differences between the Canon XTi and the T1i? I had a XTi prior and had purchased a remote shutter release for the 40D and 50D (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002N65P7W/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_3?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B003VW27H8&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=072A1AET52BYAVQVGAC4) but was able to purchase a 2.5mm male-to-male cable with success to my Canon XTi. I sold the XTi a few months back and bought the T1i even farther back but I never used the remote on the T1i. Now, I need to but can't get the camera to recognize the remote. The remote and cable are both the same, so I'm assuming the way the T1i reads the signal input has changed.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get this to work? I'd rather not spend the money for a new shutter release but if it comes down to the point I must, well, then I must.

Hi,
I need a link to 4.3 firmware
just got a refurbished 3GS from apple which has iOS 4.2.1 on it and i cant back up my restore point as it was done on iOS4.3
if I try to update in itunes it downloads the latest 4.3.2 which may also not be compatible with my restore which was last done on iOS4.3
I need to update the replacement iphone to 4.3 then restore my 4.3 backup and then obviously put the latest 4.3.2 on it !
Thanks

Yeah, it's probably not a good idea to eat any wild animals or insects near Fukushima. Milk from cows in that area has already been restricted due to contamination and they're asking farmers to keep the cows inside barns. They'll be testing agricultural and seafood.

How does the printer connect to the network? If it's supposed to be connected via WiFi, you should probably look at the printer itself and configure it to join the new WiFi network.

Well, Digg had this two days ago...
Anyway, I wonder what impact this will have on their stock this quarter.
The newspapers had it on Friday.
The impact will depend on how much Apple has to revise their profit statements to comply, which I presume we'll learn soon.

I had an Otterbox defender and loved it too. Unfortunately, after about a week it started creaking and moving around under the silicon (i.e. the two halves of the case would move in relation to each other).
Otterbox were fantastic and replaced it for me FOC (they just shipped one from the USA to the UK completely FOC and didn't ask for the old one back)
However, after a couple of months, the replacement started doing exactly the same and I ended up having to tape it together under the silicon to hold it together.
Basically, I think what happened is that the clips stopped holding the case together tightly over time (I'd taken it out a few times), and for that reason I'd definitely recommend keeping it in the case 24/7 otherwise you could end up with the same problem I had

I think it is a pop account through my DSL provider. Server account settings show it as a pop account for incoming and smtp as outgoing. Is this what you are asking?

My advice is to stop worrying. Apple's not going to release any software, even a developer preview, that'll melt your computer.
And unless the app you are using was updated for Lion, who knows if those temps are even correct.

It shouldn't matter what a person looks like to buy a product or their age or their personality. If someone wants something and can afford it then hey great for them!

Blu-Ray + MPEG2 HD, looks like vomit!!! ;)
<]=)
Exactly! I'm hoping that a CRT HDTV will help mask the problems. But I think for obvious MPEG artifacts it's Sky HD who takes the biscuit.

im getting "this device isnt eligible for the requested build" error in itunes. any takers? thanks
I had the same problem. Found the solution in comments to the Dev Team Blog post.
I'm copying and pasting the instructions below, and it worked for me.
Check your hosts file to make sure 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com is commented out. It's a file that the operating system uses to resolve domain names to IP addresses.
On Windows it's located at C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
On Windows 7 you might need to Right-click on Notepad and 'run-as administrator' to be able to edit the file. Then browse to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc.
In OSX it's located at /private/etc/hosts
The best way to edit the file here is run the following from the terminal app
sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
When it asks you for your password use the same on you use to log into the system.
Add a # before the 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Press Control O to save, hit enter, and control X to exit the editor

No worries - life is too short -
I just couldn't find a direct reference to SMS backup in the iTunes help files - or the iPhone user manual...
