Question #2. I want to upgrade the hard drive right away. Is there any way that I can copy the OS over to the new hard drive since I don't have any instalation CDs?
2. There's tools for OS X that will do this (e.g. superduper) but I don't know about OS9.
OS 9 doesn't need any steenking tools, mon! Hook your new drive up on the internal bus (or pop it into an external FireWire cradle i fyou have one); boot from OS 9 from your existing HD, and use OS 9's utility Drive Setup to format and initialize your new drive, and partition it if you wish to partition. Then drag-copy the System Folder to the new drive. Go to the Startup Disk Control Panel and pick the copy of the OS on the new drive and reboot to make sure it worked / is "blessed" / etc.
Repeat the drag-copy process for all your MacOS 9 applications (which may or may not be confined to an "Applications (OS 9)" folder, btw).
Done.
For OS X, you need software to copy the OS over, due to permissions and an invisible file or two. I acquired Retrospect Express as a toss-in freebie when I bought an external FW drive to use for backup, and I'll vouch for it. Others already mentioned on this thread are probably also solid and many of them are free (Retro Ex costs at least a nominal buck or two).

I've been trying to make an image of my hard drive so I can burn it to a CD or a DVD. I want to do a sparse image. When I do it, I always get errors. Usually something stating the disk is in use. I even get similar errors when I boot from my Panther CD and try to use that Disk Utility. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I have an Elgalto EyeTV DTT stick that I purchased around a year ago. The problem is that I heard it could be ran on windows 7 but I'm having no luck.
I have a windows 7 ultimate boot camp setup on my mac if your wondering.
I've checked in device manager and the device appears as "EYETV DTT".
There are no drivers available and I can't find them anywhere. None were provided on the installation disc.
And according to Elgato the "EYETV DTT" can run on windows but on the box it only has a macintosh symbol:/
This isn't the really small new version its the one that is about 3.5" inches in length and has a removable antenna.
Anyone know a solution or be able to point me to a driver download?

Found this in 5 seconds with google search for "mobile broadband powerpc".
http://www.virginmobileusa.com/mobile-broadband/ovation-mc760.html
http://www.virginmobileusa.com/mobile-broadband/mifi-2200.html
Both simply say you need OS X 10.3+ which means it must support PowerPC as there was no public 10.3 for Intel.

Today i purchased a Linksys WRT54. The service isn't as good as I hoped for, doesn't quite cover my home, so i'll probably be returning it tomorrow for something more powerfull and consistent.
Do you guys have any suggestions for wireless routers?? Ones with good range and good little to no dropped signals?
I've been happy with the WRT54G Routers that I've set up and used.
Make sure you flash update it to the latest version.
Make sure the signal strength is maxed out.
If it does not have enough signal strength for your home, this may be a problem with other wireless routers as well. You might want to get a repeater to extend the range.
Also, location is key. Metal/Rebarb/Iron can really affect the range of wireless.
Netgear makes some good products as well.

Given that Nyko has all but officially abandoned the adapter that would have allowed PS2 guitar controllers to work on PS3, I've turned to a new dream.
I'm no programmer, so if I'm completely outta my gourd I trust someone will slap me sensible... The Xbox 360 GH2 controller is a USB device with an extra button for Live. Would it be possible for someone to write a driver to make that extra button act as the button required by the PS3 to initiate a PS2 game, and permit the 360 guitar to be used on the PS3 to play the PS2 Guitar Hero games?

The pause between tracks is a result of MP3's file structure, and it is impossible to have gapless playback with MP3's.
I completely disagree with this. As a programmer, I don't see why you can't open the next mp3 file ahead of time so that it's ready to go when the current one ends. Then you'd have a seamless transition. In fact I know that one mp3 player I've used in the past did pull this off somehow (just can't remember which one...grr...).
Personally, I use linux (though I'm scrimping for my first Mac) but many of the mp3 players on linux have this same trouble. I like digweed, and his work is one continuous blend of music best heard with absolutely no gaps between the tracks. Unfortunately I don't have a music player on linux that does this properly.
I was really hoping that iTunes had been more carefully considered than this. After all, Apple is supposed to be the pinnacle of attention to detail, isn't it?
This is such a simple trick, and I'm sure there are other ways to get mp3 files to play back to back. What I can't believe is that the authors of iTunes, Juk (linux), Rhythmbox (linux) and others haven't figured it out yet. They must not listen to trance.
In linux land we file bug reports that the software author can read. I wonder if apple has some sort of customer feedback like this that you can use to communicate this problem back to the authors of iTunes?

When iTV was announced people were saying it would be contradictory for Apple to put a DVR in it, because they offer TV shows available for download. Now Microsoft offers TV downloads via Xbox 360 and a DVR via Win Media Center, so how come it's not contradictory for MS to do so?
In my opinion Apple needs to offer a dvr of some sorts to compete.
The 360 will also allow you to download and play them in HD now. That's the big story here. With Connect360 I've been able to access my 'book's iTunes and iPhoto library wirelessly on the 360. With the free Fall Update on the 360, users are now capable of streaming media--without Media Center--on their PCs. Once there's a solution to streaming video from a Mac that will be the kiss of death for a lot current 360/Mac owners buying an iTV.
Personally, I'll get an iTV for the plasma in my living room, but I'm hoping it supports HD or I can't do it. Now, if there was a way to access iTunes HD content (if there ever is such a beastie) through the 360 that would be KILLER. This may be an opportunity--dare I say it--for MS and Apple to work together to provide content--especially if the Zune is a massive failure. It's a GREAT time to be a Mac/360 owner!

I have a G4 iBook w/Tiger 10.4.3 and the problem is that the network icon disappeared from the finder sidebar. Now the only way I can get to network is by going to GO/Network. I can not drag the icon from this finder window into the sidebar because it is an Alias.
I can get to it in the terminal window @ /Network, however that still does not solve my problem. Any help would be appreciated.

How does that make the 4th gen better? Even if you don't use the video camera, the 5th gen had a larger screen, fm radio, and other features. How can it be inferior when it has everything the 4th gen did plus more? At least people can make the argument that the 6th gen is better because it's smaller and has the clip, but the 4th gen really doesn't have any advantage over the 5th.
Apple is quite interesting in selling products that people end up buying. I _bought_ the 5th gen nano to a large degree because it has a video camera and radio and plays movies. I then didn't actually use any of these to any serious degree, but that's what made me buy it. And that's why Apple put these features into the iPod. Lots of people bought the new nano because of the small size and the touchscreen. In two years time, Apple can release a bigger nano again with a huge battery and people will buy it.
If Apple didn't change products, you would buy a new iPod after many many years only when the old one breaks down. Buy changing the iPod models, Apple sells more. I wouldn't want to know the number of iPods bought as Christmas presents that wouldn't be bought if the model didn't change. At this point in time, Apple has to make iPods that existing iPod owners will buy even when they have a perfectly fine working iPod already.

My girl used to use a Candyshell (the light blue and pink one). Now she has a pink and white Otterbox Defender and she couldn't be happier which actually shocked me.
Generally, the ladies don't seem care about the actual style of the case or even it's functionality. The seem to only care about the color. Granted that is a blanket statement and doesn't apply to the entire gender but the past couple of girlfriends I've had have had this same attitude towards their phones.
That does not apply to geek girls :D.
For me function first and then style.
My current favorites and why:
1) SWitcheasy Vulcan Smoke. The slimmest full port covering case.
2) Casemate Hula black. Shows off my Luckylabs stickers and the phone looks almost naked while still having some lay on table.
3) Otterbox Commuter. One of the thinnest fully protective cases, plus pink and white is sexy!
4) Waterfileds pouch (sfbags): To keep the cased phone from getting scratched with all the crap in the pocket/purse.

I saw another article where it said a bunch of them were flung to the front of the bus at impact. That's why I assumed there was no belts. Obviously there were, but people didn't wear them. I haven't seen many buses with them, so it must be a new thing. Regardless, it should be the law. That's just senseless loss of life.

I created a thread on this problem here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1121218&highlight=). I filed a bug and received a response from Apple that it was a duplicate. It was refiled under the original Bug ID# 8441526.
