It lets you run an external display at higher resolutions (easily making it up to a 17 inch monitor's 1280x1024 or whatever it is).
My 12" (32MB VRAM) has no difficulty spanning onto a 1600x1200/24 display, for reference.
And finally it voids your warrantee.
This isn't entirely accurate. Apple has stated that, if they find the hack in place during repairs, they reserve the right to refuse you warranty service.
However, like any firmware hack, it's easily undone. If you use the Applescript to install it, you can use the uninstall button; otherwise, it's a simple nvram-reset away.
In practice, several people here have successfully gotten warranty service despite the presence of the hack.

I pre-ordered my copy, but who can pass up on an opportunity to hang out with other Mac fanatics. I mean, I can't. Also, the possibility of free Leopard T-Shirt? Just icing on the cake. I'll be there around 4:30 or so @ Green Hills. Funny to think the last OS release I went to was at 'ol MacAuthority.

The whole idea of a debate is having an opinion; not necessarily having to substantiate it.
There is still nothing wrong with posting an opinion.
However, members who post an opinion as fact, or repeatedly post the same thing, without adding anything new to further discussion, are going to have to adjust to the new rules.

Like most policies, it's there for a reason and is intended to benefit the overall membership.
There's a tradeoff among three less-than-perfect choices for a user's title when they are temporarily banned:
1. No change in title. The results: Posts by other users complaining that the user is rude, a hit-and-run troll, a scammer, or some other kind of troublemaker because they didn't reply to posts directed at them, even when they had asked for help, they didn't reply when their opinion was challenged, they didn't reply to PMs about Marketplace deals, etc.
2. "Banned" title. The results: Posts by other users complaining (or celebrating) that the user was permanently banned, because they don't know it's only temporary. Other users would also send emails and PMs and Contact forms to the administrator and moderators, because they thought a member in time-out had been permanently banned.
Note: #2 is vBulletin's default user title for a user with a temporary ban.
3. "In Time-Out". The results: Posts by other users complaining (or celebrating) that the user was temporarily banned.
#1 has the benefit of better user privacy but #1 and #2 don't do them any favors, since people end up talking about them, calling more attention to their change in status. And #1 gives people a bad impression of them for false reasons. #1 and #2 waste everyone's time and lead to misunderstandings. We switched to #3 because of these very real problems. The problems shown above for #3 occur much less frequently and aren't as serious.
The "In Time-Out" title was never intended to be a warning to other users.
#3 isn't as private as would be ideal, but neither is #1. Experience shows that other users notice when a regular user stops posting, so other users know something happened even if the user title doesn't change. #3 gives the bare minimal amount of information and we don't share the details with anyone but the timed-out user. It's a compromise that has served us well to prevent the problem outlined above.
The title of "In Time-Out" could be some other phrase but it's not clear that it would change the reactions of those who notice user titles and know what they mean. We added the "Guest" user title for cases where a user no longer has an account but has not been banned, to avoid the stigma associated with a banned or timed-out status. It too would have the same meaning no matter what phrase is used.
We'd rather not see gossip about users in time-out. If you report such posts, the moderators can remove them and this will increase user privacy, particularly because the user title will return to normal after the time-out but the posts will otherwise remain.

I'm taking a dreaded Document Formatting class for college and what I thought would be the easiest A of my life has become a nightmare. I never realized that Word 2007 for PC was so different from my 2008 version for the Mac.
Here's what I need to do.
Change the line spacing to 1.15. NOT 1.5 which is an option on my Mac. Apparently Word 2007 has this new spacing for it's default and I keep bombing each assignment cause I didn't notice the difference. I REFUSE TO GO TO CAMPUS AND USE THEIR PC's. I will not admit defeat, but I will ask for your help.
HELP!

Also, when I probed deeper into the HP settings, there are no CUPS+GIMP print drivers for the LaserJet 1200. There are such drivers listed for most of the other HP models (though not all), but not for the LaserJet 1200.
It's weird the way the LaserJet 1200 still appears twice under "Model name" in the Printer Setup Utility's "Add Printer" dialogue. If you had scrolled down the page (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_Supported_Printers.php3), you would have seen that the LaserJet 1200 uses the LaserJet 6 driver.

I don't like Gears also. I think Halo is absolutely stupid though too. This proves the movie industry is and has been going downhill for the last 5 or more years. Creativity is at an extreme low.

I want this one. I don't want the Zeppelin, because you have to have the ugly iPod dock hang off of it. I don't want the JBL dock because it has too many buttons and a screen on it. I just want the nice, classy iW1. I want three actually for multi-room audio.
I looked for an official "where the heck is the iw1" thread, and I could not find one...

My only hesitation was that if I pre-ordered I wouldn't know for sure if I could get that day off work. But then again, I'd be in no worse a position than if I couldn't make it on the day having not pre-ordered!
I know what I'm talking about, honest. lol

Honestly, given the current prices of the entry-level Macbook Pro.. the need for a Macbook is not necessary.. Just look at how powerful the entry-level Macbook Pro is and its only like 150.00 more than the MacBook.. Not worth it, I think Apple should dump the Macbook and just use Macbook pros.

I import all of my CDs currently into Apple Lossless (best of offered formats for the iPhone), but that fills up my 32GB iPhone FAR too quickly. Instead I am keeping two libraries, one in ALAC and one in 320kbps AAC. However, importing from CDs is a pain to have to do, importing it once, quitting iTunes, starting it up, choosing a different library, and importing again. Are there applications/automator workflows/applescripts/anything that could aid me in this process? Thank you =)

Shoot, virtually nothing that's discussed here has anything to do with need... this is all about want. ;)
But I congratulate you on your willpower to hold out for the big display. Giving up a small want if it helps you with a big want is always OK.

nope you are allowed to test prototypes, just not offer them for sale without FCC approval.
As an employee of a phone manufacturer, I just wanted to vouch for that - you can use the devices for testing; you just can't sell them. Absolutely correct.

I jailbroke my iPod Touch 4g running 4.3.1 and then had some issues and restored it. I already had the 4.3.1 ipsw so I restored it to that. But there's some issues now, when I go to settings and then about right after "4.3.1" it has in parentheses (8H6), is there any way of getting rid of that? Second problem is that when I bring up the multitasking bar and swipe to the right to show the music controls, the orientation lock is all black and when I press on it it says mute on (or off) (and it doesn't work either.) So is there anyway I can fix these two problems???
