You have to *restore* the iPod in iTunes, restoring will wipe all data on the iPod, there is no way around that. Using a virtual machine *will* work, as long as it has USB support, which all the major VM apps do have.
RE SP3: Maybe..? Just try try it, it will probably work.

With a tethered jailbreak will I have to restore my ipod to factory settings if I send it to apple? If not, I am guessing that it would be wise to delete any jailbreak apps such as cydia. Also if I do restore is there a way to transfer my game saves that were progressed while jailbroken to the restored ipod? Sorry if these were asked before...

It'd be sad to see it go, but I think it's going to.
If Apple sell are selling a laptop with only 64GB of memory in I don't think they're worried about massess of people needing 160GB+ in the future, especially if a 128GB iPod touch may well be released this september
Also, Apple are starting to hate selling products with moving parts, look at every iPod (-classic) and the new MacBook Airs...the classic can't go on forever, as Iconic as it is.
Get one now, they'll be worth a lot on eBay in the future!
I'll miss it!

Pretty loud is pretty much an understatement.
Though the G5 XServe we have is marginally quieter than some of its Poweredge brothers and sisters, it is still comparing a jet taking off to a slightly smaller jet taking off.
I run mine in my basement, and I can hear it on the first floor of my house. It's ridiculously loud.
Yeah, they make excellent file servers. I'm using it to stream videos to my TiVo, the server automatically downloads and extracts movies from usenet. I control it from upstairs through remote desktop, I can restart it over SSH if it freezes. It pretty much runs itself, it's awesome.

Screw that. I vote they move towards a naming system like with OSX. Instead of using big cats, they use fruit.
Next iteration of iPhone = iPhone Banana.
After that, iPhone Papaya.
How about using domestic cats instead.
The iPhone himalayan
The iPhone tabby
Could be a funny joke.

Of course with the Democratics and their coming hyper inflation buying big boxes might make sense again.
Thanks for injecting politics where it doesn't belong. Frankly, you shouldn't be voting if you don't even know that it's Democrats.
What kind of "exclusive deal"? And BTW, wouldn't that loss of $200k a month have also have a substantial negative impact for Costco then for Apple? If that number is true we are talking about $100 000 000 per month in declined sales.
The impact to Costco's bottom line really depends on the profit margins they were making on the iPods and how much extra foot traffic they were brining in.
There is no direct impact on their bottom line because, unlike Sam's Club, Costco doesn't make a dime on any of the products they sell, only the membership fees. Of course there is indirect negative impact if the sole reason you would become a member was to buy an iPad, but I'm willing to bet the number of people who would do that is negligible.

It's $1269 CAD for the iMac 27” - Core i3 3.2 Ghz refurb. Is this a good deal?!
801, for that, sounds like a steal. The 27" screen, alone, in the UK, would cost more than that... But we Brits always get fisted on North American goods. Maybe ask a fellow Canadian.
EDIT: To give you some context - that machine would've been 1,399 new, over here. See whether the prices scale.

I just a few hours ago set up my D-Link DI-624+ wireless router.
...snip...
So im quite impressed with D-link at the moment (i hope it lasts).
inlimbo, best of luck to you and I hope you got a good one...
elevenpower, I personally wouldn't recommend the DI-624. There are a number of very long threads on BroadbandReports about this router and the problems many people have had with it. Many of them have a problem which causes it to constantly reboot. I have one with this problem and it is very annoying.

Ok...new thought...
SSD for boot drive.
RAID0 for scratch disk.
Regular HDD for storage.
RAID0 vs SSD for scratch disk...I'm reading that SSD isn't all that great for scratch disks because the write speed isn't all that great and sometimes actually slower than a traditional disk, especially with small file changes. Plus, a 128GB SSd is around $250 whereas i already have a couple SATA drives I could use for RAID0.
So, are there any down sides to using RAID0 strictly as a scratch drive?
RAID0 is fine for scratch, but you're wrong about SSDs being slower than mechanical discs for writes. Especially for small file changes, SSDs beat the crap out of mechanical drives (pardon my french ;)).
However, it depends on what SSD you chose. There are indeed some SSDs that are not as fast as advertised (Sandforce controlled drives). Still faster than mechanical drives, though. Good SSDs write with up to 300MB/s, compared to mechanical discs with 145MB/s.
But yes, if you want to save money, a RAID0 from mechanical drives is fine for scratch. Just make sure it's backed up.

I'm trying to copy my iTunes library to a thumb-drive so that I can play it in my car ( it has a USB plug). My problem is that the car can't play apple
Lossless, which is how I've ripped all the music in iTunes. For one of my iPods, this is very easy, where you can choose to down-res your library during the sync. Is there a way to do this using the export function? Should I just copy the files and move them to the thumb-drive and then down-res them? If I did that, how would I keep iTunes from down-resign my original library. Advice please!

I have lost my Windows XP administrative password and can't find it to save my life! Am I stuck having to wipe and reload my computer? Or is there a method I can use to reset it or bypass the log-in screen. I do not want to lose everything! Thanks for your time!

Yes I don't see how folks use laptops.
I hate the high octane noise and heat. The tiny screen. The fact that the keyboard is built-in and a spill could ruin the entire machine. And the fact you pay more for your power in a laptop form factor. Reliability of laptops is also much worse than desktops afaik.
I almost got a 13" MBP yesterday until the little guy over my shoulder started repeating this stuff over and over.

Check your USB devices, then what drivers you may have installed. Sounds like something is crashing the finder.
Unplug all USB devices (except the Apple keyboard and mouse of course), and see if your system still does it. Then, if it works fine, plug in a device at a time, until you can identify the guilty party.

how much do you think you've spent alltogether on cases? Do you get cases sent to you by companies at all? and do you regret buying so many cases? I sure do lol but I still can't help wanting more...
I have bought two cases out of the 79. One was the SwitchEasy TRIM for my iPhone 4 and the other was the DLO Jam Jacket for my iPhone 3G. I regret neither of those. :) Everything else was sent out for review.
