^ But it's not too hard to do now. The iPad and iPhone have been out for years, and the DS even longer. I imagine they could do it.
I hope they don't, or rather I hope they don't ditch physical controls. I'd hate the next gen consoles to have an iOS-style controller setup, eep! That'd push me straight to PC-only gaming.
3D! 3D! 3D!

But the TV's are expensive...
It's not so bad now. For what I paid for a TV 2 years ago I can now buy the same brand, same size but in 3D (with other additional 2D features).
Personally I'm waiting for a more convenient display method like the 3DS.

My only hesitation was that if I pre-ordered I wouldn't know for sure if I could get that day off work. But then again, I'd be in no worse a position than if I couldn't make it on the day having not pre-ordered!
I know what I'm talking about, honest. lol

Probably 11. Or 10.8 and 10.9 and maybe even 10.10. But it's been 11 years. So next should be 11 or something else.

Should i start reading up on it now, or wait till thursday when i actually get the mac before i delve into it?
You can definitely get something out of it just by reading it without Xcode available and running.
NOTE: Some folks find Kochan boring or at least slow going in the beginning. Give it a chance and if the first few chapters don't grab you skip ahead a bit.
The second book you mention (Hillegass & Conway) is a great second book since it delves more into the iOS specific/GUI stuff that is barely touched at the end of Kochan.
EDIT: If you are really anxious to get started you could always rent time at http://www.macincloud.com/. For as low as $20 for a month's access.

Sorry it's not clear.
Simply rank songs you "simply like" with a 1 or 2 in your user control panel.

After an hour at moderate load I saw the temp stats on my cpus (2 x 3ghz 5160s) were high 40's and the northbridge was up into the 70s.
1 - Should I be concerned about these temps? If not, at what temperature should I start to worry?
2 - CPU B is always about 4-5 degrees hotter than CPU A, even when they are under equal load, has anyone else experienced this?

No but I got Apple TV and AirPlay is awesome-sauce.
Same here, I also have a WP7 Samsung Focus and wish there was a App to get it to work with Apple TV. My whole home surround/HDTV System is connected to my Apple TV so I can stream all my music and video from my iPad to my system.. It's awesome!!!

radiation is not like a virus, it's not infective and the signal gets diluted at each passage through a host.
yes, there will be some radiation passed through animal that ate radioactive material or that flew/swam/walked/crawled through contaminated areas, but the damage would mostly be to said animals, not whatever later comes in contact with it.
that said, eating produce or animal from that area is certainly a bad idea.

It seems like I saw somewhere that Windows for homebuilt machines was cheaper than regular retail box sets? I would like to get 1 or 2 more for gpu and BIGADV folding. Thanks. I know this is a Mac site, but, Mac OSX won't do GPU folding that I know of, I'd rather use Mac OSX or Linux and have tried to get the windows Wine wrapper to work with no luck.

Just wanted to get a thread running on what powerbook specs are expected with this speculated Nov. 5th update. Personally, I think the following is reasonable:
1Ghz G4 (low end staying at 800mhz)
512 mb DDR RAM (I know the processor can't fully utilize it yet, but it does run at a lower voltage and therefore it will reduce heat)
Better heat dissipation system
Radeon 9000 preferably with 64mb of RAM
I really hope that bluetooth is included, but the above are really all I think we can realistically expect.
Now.... does anyone have any information to the contrary????

I recently changed jobs and no longer need a laptop so I'm looking at selling this. It has Applecare and is in perfect condition. No dead pixels, etc...I'd like to get $1300 shipped for this but am open to offers if that's way off. It's hard to tell what these are worth now.

yes but if you say that the best human chess players can think 200 moves ahead and that is the measure of intelligence then isn't a machine that can think ahead thousands of moves therefore defined to be more intelligent?
If that is your measure of intelligence, then sure. But that is a very, very narrow measure and it only applies in very limited circumstances. Chess is a game tightly bound by logical rules and a limited game board (64 squares). Yet humans become good at chess by strategizing, not by memorizing moves. We do things like predict what the opponent is going to do, we can do psychological tricks like making moves that capitalize on the opponent's greed, stuff like that. We are doing more than simply looking ahead at the next X possible variations of the game and choosing the most optimal path.
That kind of processing works when there are limited options, but fails with open-ended scenarios (such as trivia question and answer).
When I ask you a trivia question you don't need to expend processing power trying to sort through thousands of possible interpretations of the question and then performing a statistical analysis to determine which is the most probable. Or maybe you do, but your brain does all kinds of filtering and association automatically and instantly. This is something that computers can't do yet. They can simulate it by essentially brute-forcing the answer so quickly that it seems like they're thinking, but they're not. Yet.
Watson has incredible natural language processing and data search abilities, and it looks like a fair bit of semantic knowledge processing. It's impressive, absolutely. But is it intelligent? No.
