Thank you very much everyone for your replies and suggestions.
She already handed in her work and all was good.
It was a really short notice request, because she became very stressed.
Thank you again.

That is slightly cool.
Now that B&N has Nook Study, it will be interesting to see the iPad and iPhone app. Only then will I think about getting an iPad.

I want better voice implementation and for apple to add free gps with good map software no more just google maps we need something better for traveling instead of having to buy a gps app. Like something android has.
I didn't include software features in the original question since the iPhone 4 will (hopefully :)) get those when Apple releases iOS 5. Seems like the only thing separating the 4 and 5 will be hardware features...

Duff-Man says....maybe, maybe not....but you will need something like Data Recycler (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18235) which will try recover.....oh yeah!
And the longer you go on using your Mac, the lower the chance of successfully retrieving your files is.
This is because the Mac 'sees' the space on the HD as unused and will write over it given enough time.

I only played the demo of the first one - a lot of feedback said the quests got repetitive after a while - I guess you didn't feel that way...?
Not at all. Of course, I play mostly NCAA Football and Madden, so I'm used to it if it is.

Wow! First confirmed delivery is in Europe. Maybe Apple's starting to give some more attention to the European market.
It certainly looks that way. I ordered a Mac mini for my neighbour a few weeks ago, and that also arrived within two days. It's a very welcome improvement, but long overdue.

The 7800 was too noisy for me, too, on the one quad I had with it.
Get the Quadro fx4500 for the G5.
There are internal wires that lead down to the where the plastic deflector sits. You can try to trace them to see why the little metal tab on the bottom of the deflector is being overridden. Or not.
Hmm.. Is the Quadrofx4500 a noisy card? What is the most powerful, worthwhile card to get if I want to get rid of the 7800 GT?

Answer to original question: I don't know what possesses people to use WMV3 (which is actually Windows Media 9 video) in AVI files, but you're currently out of luck. WindowsMediaPlayer on the mac knows how to play WMV3, but it can't read AVI containers, so it's useless, and I know of no way to build the video and audio streams from an AVI file into an ASF file, at least on a Mac.
There are also no open source players that can decode WMV3, although a couple days ago the first foundations for doing just that were laid in the ffmpeg project, so eventually there will be options.
IMO, AVI is a stupid idea - having a container format that can use just about any codec is bound to cause confusion.
Like bankshot implied, that's an embarassingly ignorant comment, being that although AVI probalby isn't as good of a container format as MOV (less features), they're identical in that they both allow a huge range of video and audio formats, which is your complaint.
If you'd like me to demonstrate by making a MOV with a codec you can't play, it'll take me about a minute and a half.
The only difference is that most people who make MOV files stick to standard QuickTime codecs, whereas AVI, being much more popular for home-ripped files on the internet (where people seem to have an inexplicable urge to use bizzare codecs when there are far better and more popular alternatives available), has a huge range of oddball stuff people decide to use with them. You could easily do the same with QuickTime if you felt like it, though, and I'll bet if it was more popular people would.

... and Apple will surely blame Adobe.
They can try but apple now has to big name companies pointing the finger back at them regarding the open gl drivers. Both valve and adobe are saying the source of the problem is apple. That does not bold well for apple. I expect others to start coming out soon

Education is important. Very important. But I guess Chinese people here in NYC buy up iPads to ship to hk/china while Chinese in hk/china buy up all the salt!!

They queue in line to buy salt. What is this world coming to?!
"Panicked shoppers stripped stores of table salt in Hong Kong - and in cities across the mainland - amid internet claims that it can ward off radiation exposure from Japan. The alarm sparked calls from Secretary for Food and Health York Chow Yat-ngok for people to be level-headed and stop listening to false rumors. Consumers also worry that salt in future may be produced from radiation- contaminated seawater.
The panic-buying pushed up the retail price of salt to as high as HK$30 a catty, from the usual HK$2.
The salt frenzy also hit Macau, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other mainland cities as misinformation crisscrossed the region via the internet in the wake of Japan's nuclear emergency.
Chow said the rumors about salt being a radiation remedy and affected seawater are "totally unfounded." "Three-quarters of the Earth's surface is made up of seawater," he said. "We believe the supply of salt will not be affected. The contamination of the seawater around Japan will be much diluted or washed away after some time." Chow said iodine - which can help lower the absorption of certain radioactive chemicals in the body - is useful only if people take iodine tablets within six hours before or after radiation exposure. [...]
"What matters most is that Hong Kong citizens should have common sense and analytical skills, and understand how radiation may affect our bodies," Chow said. "We should not get affected by such rumors and the speculators who may be spreading the rumors in the hope of making profits."
People with edema, high blood pressure and kidney disease risk damaging their health more if they consume too much salt. Undersecretary for Food and Health Gabriel Leung said about 85 percent of the table salt on the market is not iodized. "One has to take about 2.5 to five kilograms of [iodized] table salt a day in order to absorb the dose of iodine that is contained in an iodine tablet," he said.
Tommy Chan Hing-moon, a clinical psychologist at Matilda Medical Centre, said a "herd mentality" causes shoppers to follow what others do amid a panic. "This is an overreaction by citizens after hearing rumors and seeing negative media coverage about the potential dangers of nuclear disasters," Chan said ..."

I preferred it as on the original Apples it was always referred to as the Apple key. Also it makes things easier when giving someone instructions over the phone. Now instead of saying let's say Apple S I have to say Command S. Then they say "what is command?", no one ever knows what the command key is. To which I have to reply the key by the space bar with the little box and four circles.

Also, on new machines the install DVD normally includes the bootcamp drivers. I have not tried it but I'd see if the install USB is recognized by Windows and includes the drivers for the MacBook Air for Windows 7.

Actually just here on MacRumors. If I remember right I saw like 400 membersr listed for Seti, around 50-60 hadn't completed anything and around 1200 members on F@H for MR and about the same 50-60 with nothing completed. Keep in mind I'm remembering this from a couple weeks back, but those are roughly correct.

This is the ONLY advantage Windows has over macs and ive made this mistake a few times too
on windows same-name folders get merged and each file replace gets promted for a yes/no. whereas on os x it replaces the entire folder with the other one after 1 prompt.
Could be bad if someone copied a folder called "Music" to my home directory and it would delete all my music for me
hope this get fixed in tiger

Hi guys. I got an Iphone 4 locked, baseband 03.10.01. Is there any way to unlock it or only using turbo SIM?
Thanks
Ricardo
There's no software unlock for the 03.10.01 yet. Depending on what carrier it's locked to, you can either get it remotely unlocked (won't work for AT&T locked phones) or use a turbo sim.
Thanks

I am trying to reformat an old lc475 to give to a relative. I have found a copy of my old os 7.6 system software on cd but the external cd drive I have only connects sometimes. It never connects when I make it my startup disc so I can run disc warrior on the 475s harddrive. I have tried using scsi probe but it doesnt help. I seem to remember another programme called silver lining but cant find it.
Any suggestions? does anyone know any freeware that might help me fix what I assume is a scsi problem?
