If i had to pick there, it would be the T2i. The T3 is really basic and much lower quality that you will outgrow it quickly and I would say that the T3i doesn't add that much over the T2i for the price difference- just the standard faster, crisper, etc. Like I've said in other threads, I'm not a huge fan of vari-angle screens anymore, as they become a weak point on the cameras after a couple of years.

The 18-55 wouldn't be my first choice of lens for any model. They really feel quite cheap (read- plastic-y) and not very much reach. I would look for one of the kits with the 18-135 (or similar) or if you can find one - a 17-85 which is a really solid lens. Even if you have to pick up the T2i as a body and lens separately, it would be a good way to go.

The battle for food is a battle for survival. Ironically the bee can see the spider (crab spider) but finds the flower more attractive because the spider is there.

For one, this is not a DRM issue, and not illegal. The videos are corporate-stuff, shot by various people - I was asked to finalize this work, and compress it to a web-ready format...

I dumped the files, one by one, into handbrake. Set an average bit-rate manually and used the x.264 codec, and output to m4v files. All files played fine on my mac, so I send them off to the client...

...8 of 12 files would play fine on windows-PC. 4 files would not. They tested on several machines. The faulty videos were originally shot HD, while the other 8 were SD. But how could this have anything to do with it?? Coincidence? The output format is still the same, right?

...Now I am wondering if perhaps I have selected the ffmpegx MPEG4 codec instead of the x.264 codec ... could this be of some significance?

well the Nvidia does better in certain things while the 850 does better in others.

Also the 6800 allows for two 30" displays while no ATI allows that currently.

that being said i go for the ATIThe X850 XT does support a single 30" display + second display at lower (1920x1200 or less) resolution., while the 6800 GT DDL supports 2 of the 30" Displays.

Your reply almost makes it sound like the X850 XT doesn't support even one of the 30" displays.

Noticed this today, When playing with 1 of my 4 360 controllers I noticed that on two of them the bottom grey plastic bit is slightly darker but shiny and on the other two the grey bit was lighter but matte. Is this to do with the different models or what? Am I just seeing things?
You're not seeing things, the plastic on the initial models was different. It doesn't mean anything.

so everybody can buy an imac, try it and return it used after 14 days and apple doesnt care? that doesnt make much sense

Everyone can, but not everyone does. I didn't, for one...!

It makes perfect sense. Many vendors have 'NQA' return periods. It demonstrates a confidence in the product, and encourages those buyers 'on the fence' to give it a try.

Unless you ingest an organism (or its byproducts) that has itself ingested/inhaled a radioactive substance, or pet a cute bunny covered with radioactive dust, your risk is minimal.

Commercially irradiated food (to kill harmful bacteria and extend shelf life) is not radioactive and is not harmful to humans.

    Irradiated does not equal radioactive.

As for the plant, an historic earthquake alone was not the cause of the failure, it was the tsunami afterwards that knocked out the backup diesel power-generating ability, leading to inability to cool the cores during shut down.

From reading the article it seems like many people would have been saved had there been seat belts...

Why the **** don't busses have seat belts again? It's the law to have them and wear them in every other type of motor vehicle. Except busses... this would have been totally preventable.

Surely Apple will come with a patch model to update this kind of software. Suppose of Final Cut Pro X. I think it should weight more than 30G, how to download it with a maintainence release.

actually, there's a "Tunes" button on everyone's post (see the bottom bar on their posts). Click on that.

But, yes, there should be user search as well as a user list of people with recs.

    coming soon. :)

You'd have to be fairly close to them for more than a brief encounter and the radiation dissipates after awhile. Not only that, they'd have to get fairly large doses in the first place to emit much radiation.

I think the real concern would be not so much the animals themselves. For an animal to represent a real exposure risk, it would probably have to be so "hot" that it would not live very long at all, nor would anything that were to eat it. It is about the contaminated material they might pick up and carry away from Fukushima. Each creature just has to bring us a very small amount, enough of them in concert, over time, could in theory make our cities, or parts of the, uninhabitable. Not sure what we could do to prevent it.

OWC and Trans International both make excellent Mac memory. Trans Intl is typically the cheaper of the two (by maybe 10% or so), but both are good bets - lifetime warranties, excellent customer support.

One thing that is unique with OWC though is that they offer rebates when you send in your factory Apple RAM. It's not very much, but it's something.

I have in my possession a macbook pro 15 2.3ghz quad core and mac pro 6-core. I used to use the mac pro with a 27" led, but do to annoying glare that just gave me headaches, I got rid of it and got a 30" instead. I also have an ipad for just random stuff, and just watching movies on the plane if needed.

So I lost a contract and thus need to cutdown on costs tremendously. I'm a developer and do apple / windows development (windows in vm, and xcode). I have 3-4 VMs running in fusion (usually one at a time). I also enjoy games like wow, portal, portal 2 now (wonderful!), and maybe others in the future. Games are definitely faster on a windows machine, but the mac pro handles them well. Although playable, I really do not want to play games on the macbook pro.

    So the question....

Should I sell the macbook pro (already got a buyer) for $2800 and just keep mac pro + ipad. This is fine but eventually may need a laptop when I start traveling again.

    or

Should I sell mac pro (already got a buyer for $3800) and keep macbook pro 15 + ipad. Keep the macbook pro for all work related things and build a cheap gaming rig (800-1000$) for just games and personal windows software? I like the separation of personal + games / business for this choice, but sometimes will want to work on the big monitor so switching the cabling between the gaming rig and laptop will get annoying (never tried working primarily on just laptop).

Thoughts? And thanks so much all for replying a head of time!!

It's a niche market for now, and most users don't use it at all. But once peripherals start using TB, it will become more widespread. But peripheral manufacturers won't rush out products until there is a good install base of computers that support TB. For that to happen, Apple will need to support it throughout its product line. Whether that happens this year or by the beginning of 2012 depends on when the products get updated. All new Macs will have TB.

Of course, if it's limited to Macs it will still be a niche market. Unless it's adopted by the PC market, it could become the next FireWire (superior to USB in many respects, but not omnipresent like the latter). In addition to hard drives and monitors, I think we'll soon see TB connectors on scanners, cameras and more.
In terms of bandwidth, the desktop can do better by using other cards in PCIe slots. On the laptops though, it offers more bandwidth than they've had access to previously (eSATA ExpressSlot cards aren't anywhere near as fast as TB is).

TB is convenient for laptops and devices as well, which is expected to help promote adoption for that market (i.e. see single disks on TB, and allow for others to be connected to a single port via Daisy Chaining). And Intel's aimed this at all computer users (even seen a phone advertised with TB), so it's not exclusive to Apple. So I do expect more devices to actually ship within a year or so as adoption increases (need more systems to release that are currently in development, as like you, I do see a bit of a "chicken and egg" situation).

iPods are usually refreshed on a annual basis sometime in September. That being said, they did not refresh the iPod classic last time around. I think you're safe to buy.
