You'd need an OS for the VM. You could look at Crossover to see if that would work. No OS required.

"I don't want this to turn into a mudslinging contest."

If you did not want a mudslinging contest, you would not have slung mud.

I am not a "hopeful 'visual artist'." Currently, visual art is my primary income pipeline. As my resume states, I am the Director of Promotion and Marketing for a large consulting firm in Silicon Valley -- not a position reached by being "hopeful".
However, after Berkeley, architecture will obviously grossly supersede it as an income source.
My "quotations" were an approximation of the intention contained in your original message. To say otherwise is only a self-congratulating delusion.
In my life I have never rammed anything down anyone's throat.
The world would be full of pity if you turned out older than me. Let's hope that isn't the case.

P.S., Nothing you said was potent enough to "destroy" any "system". (And you're trying to say I'M riding a "little cloud"?)

:D I agree. It might take ours to do. But it is still faster to reinstall then trying to get rid of all this adware/spyware junk.
..and I hope you guys learned your lesson...
Ya, it's much faster to reinstall the OS. Make sure you do a clean (format) install, to clean out any registry hooks left over. Also, keep the Bro off your system, or create a account for him to kill, instead of yours. I also like the idea of creating a restore point, and a clean image (although with only a 20GB HDD, you might just want to make a custom, slipstream disk).

I was experiencing the same problems as others after installing DP3.
That is, installation seemed ok, UNTIL it got to to "moving items into place" after which it hung.
I forced a restart, and ended up with the grey screen and spinning gear.
I followed insomniac321123's suggestion:
- rebooted to Snow Leopard
- opened the root Library folder
- opened the Updates folder and located the "lionswupdate.pkg"
Note: it was located in a folder named "041-0870"
The pathway is (root)/Library/Updates/041-0870/lionswupdate.pkg
- double-clicked that, re-ran the installer app.
- this time, when it got to the "moving items into place" segment, the task finished (in relatively short time) and I received "the installation was successful".
After this, I was able to restart and get a "good boot" to 10.7 build 11A444d.
Other observations:
When I _shut down_ Lion the first time after the update, it seemed to take extra time, with quite a bit of disk activity. I'm going to _guess_ that the problem may be due to files that normally get written at shutdown to be read at the next boot. These would normally be read and pre-loaded before the finder loaded, but could not be, hence the spinning wheel that prevented the finder from loading.
After I finally got a good boot after running the procedure above, and Lion corrected whatever it needed to correct at shutdown, subsequent shutdowns are "normal" again.

I was just wondering if there is any reason that the macbook has not been updated in so long? looking at the buyers guide, this seems to be the longest time between upgrades?

Hi,
I have a very good macbook pro which has been working absolutely fine until what must have been yesterday. My macbook charger simply will not charge. It's not one of those situations where the mac says 'not charging' or anything like that, it's just that the charger is not doing anything, no matter where it is plugged in.
The light stays black and nothing comes up on the screen.
I honestly don't know what's going on. I got the macbook in November so it's not ultimately that old, either.
Please, please help!

This I am not sure ... Why would somebody needs to be in front of a laptop if JB is tethered? It just means you need to hook back up and JB all over again if you reboot ipad..... Please do correct me if this is my misunderstanding as I have never JB tethered version either.
Having owened ipad 2 for past 16 days or so, I never need to reboot.
Yes, tethered means connected.. a tethered jailbreak means that each and every time you power down your iPad, or should it freeze or whatever and you need to power it down, you need to be near a laptop/desktop in order to get your jailbroken iPad back online, or it will just hang at the apple logo...
untethered means it works without the need to reconnect every time you reboot...
untethered is better.. :D

Handbrake is available for Windows too :D
AFAIK Handbrake for Windows doesn't have DeCSS code in it. So you have to use DVD Decryptor or something to rip the vob files.

uControl discussion (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1119697&group_id=87303&atid=582661) has some info on how to make uControl work in 10.3.8.
Basically you downlaod the source open up uControl.h in xCode. Replace the SCROLL_EMULATION 512 to SCROLL_EMULATION 0
Then make and sudo make install and upon reboot you can now access uControl in the control panel.
Just did it on my iBook and things are working again. Thought I'd pass this along :)

yep we could only draw in one room for the patients.
They have cancelled all non-emergency surgries for the day. Which is a good thing because who knows if it goes out again. Alot of the surgeons are in a tizzy. Especially one of them that only does surgeries on wednesdays.

....so I tried setting the document as A4, but making huge margins, so that it would print on A5 paper. It printed fine on a single page, but when I tried to print the whole document it did a strange thing.
First it presented the normal Print dialogue box, and I accepted this. Then it presented the same dialogue box again. I pressed Cancel. Then it started to print the document on the A5 page, but as if on an A4 page, with the title at the top, but the copy printing off the edge on right and left and bottom.
I went to the Printer Setup Utility, chose the HP LaserWriter 1200 and pressed Stop Printing.
But there appears to be no way to delete items from the print queue, so unless I delete the actual printer and start again, I have to let it print off 29 pages of junk, wasting paper.

Great. But I care about 1 thing: fix the Spaces issues.
The Office applications (both 2004 and 2008) are the single WORST performing applications I have ever used on a Mac.
Seriously, for a company with the resources that Microsoft has, is it really too much to ask for spaces to work properly? Every other app works with spaces without a glitch, why doesn't office?
Switch to another application in spaces and go back to the previous office document: document moves to god knows which space. Same with the toolbox: have it open and who knows what might happen.
Will this ever get addressed?
Sadly probably not. Have you been able to test the Office 2011 Beta? Supposedly MS is focussing on making Office 2011 more like a native OS X Cocoa app. I'll have to try my copy of the beta in VMWare workstation to see if spaces works any better.

thanks, will it delet all my stuff on itunes?
Sync the ipod before you restore. The stuff on the ipod will be gone after restore but it will still be on the computer so you can sync it back.

I'm trying to use the bloomberg anywhere app on ipad, as I'm a bloomberg professional user. When opening the app, i receive a security alert stating that the app detected that the ipad was jailbroken, and refuses to run. Is there any way to prevent apps from detecting the jailbreak? thanks
