EETimes is reporting word from analyst Chris Caso that PortalPlayer may have scored a big win (http://www.eetimes.com/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=CJEODHV51RYMCQSNDLPSKH0CJUNN2JVN?articleID=195300035) in Apple's rumored phone, receiving the contract for the applications processor design.
PortalPlayer was dumped from Apple's iPod Nano line (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/04/20060420040143.shtml) in April and has since been bought by NVidia, who themselves are rumored to have scored the multimedia chip contract (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/07/20060718175754.shtml) for the forthcoming "true" video iPod. PortalPlayer still supplies the audio processor for Apple's full-sized iPod (iPod with video) (http://guides.macrumors.com/iPod_%285G%29).
Apple's phone has recently been rumored to be in production overseas (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/11/20061115090741.shtml), with initial deliveries starting in February 2007.

The neck of that guitar you have, you say you can't wrap your hand comfortably around it? Can you get your thumb over the top and your four fingers around from the bottom? Your fingers don't have to join but if you can do all that then you should be able to play the guitar.
However, I started on a Fender starter pack. It was decent but eventually sold it (now I regret it). I now have an acoustic electric.
Basically I am learning that it is not the instrument. If the guitar is playable, stays in tune most of the time, and you can actually hold it comfortably then learn on that, cherish it as your first, and move up and onward once you learn a bit more.
Do you want an electric simply because electric is "cool" or are you really looking for a certain sound. Surely you won't get those real heavy power chords out of an acoustic. You can play a power chord, but for it to sound like many bands I'm sure the electric is where it's at.
To answer your question, the starter packs are easily grown out of but not a bad investment, especially if you learn how you can modify it as your ear grows (not literally but figuratively).
I'd be real interested in seeing that guitar.

You know when you see a PC, there are a lot of ugly, distracting sticks on them. How come Macs don't have the stickers?
You just answered your own question. Apple doesn't need to put stickers on their box to sell the stuff inside because their design and brand is consistent across all outlets.
Also, they DO come with stickers (or at least they used to) but INSIDE the box for you to put on other stuff :)

I think the easiest way is to get someone who can show you how to use it. If you know anyone who has Mac, especially if they have used Windows to sit with you for an hour and they can talk you though some of the key differences. I have persuaded a number of people at work to switch and this is what I have done, they have all found the switch process very easy.
Apples .Mac service, if you sign up to has some useful on-line tutorials on using Panther and the iLife Applications. (I should say that not everyone thinks that .Mac is worthwhile, but I think it is).
I basically taught myself as I switched some 2 years ago (this website was a great help in the early days), it is not difficult.

Winni is always complaining about something or other and always looking for ways to spin things to put Apple in a bad light.
I think he's the alter-ego of LTD. To be honest, I think he's the same person, in fact hes like jekyll and hyde for fanboys. During the day he's uber-fanboy LTD and at night he transforms into apple hater winni :p

I was using the basic notes that came with my iphone and found I really liked having a list on my phone and leaving all the pieces of paper at home. Then, I came to want the ability to make groups or project lists, and notes is just one long continuous list. Now, I've come to want a reminder that a task needs to happen and be reminded. So I started searching for apps and am overwhelmed at reading about them. I've looked in the app store but the descriptions are often general or vague or feel like over marketing. I searched for reviews and found a lot of information and am now wondering if anyone knows of a comparison so I can tell how they compare.
I like being able to create groups, be able to repeat tasks/items, show them complete, have an alert or alarm, be notified, having it talk to my google calendar would be nice too.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Apps wise I think you're stuck. I'm pretty sure app purchases can be shared but both phones need to be synced to the same computer/library and account for them to load on both phones. Somebody can correct me though.
As for music. Try using a flash drive to copy the files between computers. When you try to play them in the other itunes library it should ask for you to type in that person's itunes password. That will authorize your computer. You can do that for up to 5 computers. It will only matter for music you bought in itunes.

Alright so I made the mistake of installing lion on my macbook pro and would like to uninstall and restore from my time machine back up. Only trouble is, can I restore from a time machine back up made while was running lion? Or am I going to have to revert back to a point before that? I'll be installing Snow Leopard from an install disc.
I would think not, the lion time machine backups will be backing up lion system files. You would need to use a time machine or clone of the snow leopard since you want to revert back to that OS.

None of my friends want an Xbox, they all sold theirs, just don't play games anymore or never liked the xbox library. Mine will be going next to my Amiga, NES, classic GB series and Mega Drive in an air tight box for future play. I loved playing with my dads toys when I was a kid so it's probably only right that I do the same for my future kids!
Probably best keeping it till they get 100% b/c on the 360.
Bit funny really, the DC is the only last gen system I still play! And that did crap in the market!
the Dreamcast did better that most people think. it outsold the PS2 at launch and it was starting to outsell the PS2 when they pulled the plug (not total units sold) but it Sega would have not pulled the plug it would have started to gain on them. what killed the Dreamcast was the over hype of the PS2 and its ability to play dvd's , and the Dreamcast lack of good 3rd party developers and sega was hurting for money thanks to the failure of the SEGA cd, 32-X, and saturn, and could not keep up with the Dreamcast.

I hope that one day we actually do evolve as a species into something more enlightened rather than remaining the tool-wielding moronic savages that we are and have been since we split off from the rest of the apes.

Funny, I would think having the same file format will make it work.
The ORF (Olympus RAW) file has an identifier string for the camera, if this string doesn't match a camera on Apple's list of supported cameras, the file won't open. However if you go in and edit the string from "E-PL1" to "E-P2 ", Aperture will open it no problem. I even wrote a python/automator program to perform this on E-PL1 RAW files so they can be opened in Aperture.

What was the name of the British band played during the sample iPod commercials during the Keynote? The sounded pretty good, and I'd like to check them out.

The basic idea is simple.
Create a view. Add to it whatever subviews you need, pickerview, done button etc. When you create the view have its frame be offscreen to the bottom. AddSubview the view to something that's onscreen and then use UIView animation to animate the frame of the view onscreen. Animate the view offscreen in response to the done button.

You'd need an OS for the VM. You could look at Crossover to see if that would work. No OS required.

I think both ways seem to have too many flaws, and like i said earlier many people will not use their alternative votes wisely and I am sure that most people are unaware that they do NOT need to give an alternative.
Well, i guess we will see how it all goes.... I am working the election tonight so i wont hear the end of it til about 7/8am tomorrow!!!
Both systems have their flaws granted however I feel that AV gives the fairest chance of my vote being counted. I live in a safe seat but do not support the party in charge. My votes have essentially been wasted everytime I have voted. Not only that but it reduces the risk of negative voting. Sure people may not use their second choice wisely but in the current system many people dont use their first :D
Granted it isn't the system that the Lib Dems wanted to bring in and it isn't something that the Conservatives want either but it is a system that has been used to elect leaders of political parties in the UK (Labour* and the Lib Dems)
I know that the AV system won't go through this time, however I hope it gains enough support that it is considered again in future. Although I do hope they have the balls to go with AV+ rather than just AV.
*I know they ended up with the wrong brother but that was due to the unions rather than the voting system.

I would like to keep my iMac for at least 5 years.
Then get the new iMac.
Macs are typically the best value new. Yes, the refurb is cheaper, but $158.06. Over 5 years that is $2.63/month.
