Despite posting impressive sales of the iPad last quarter, Apple saw its tablet market share drop from 95 percent to 77 percent as shipments of Google Android-based tablets chipped away at the company's tablet dominance, a new report says.
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/01/31/apples_share_of_tablet_market_slides_to_77_android_rises_to_22.html
( Bit of a dramatic title by Apple Insider, 2.1 million Android tablets were sold to bring down the iPad marketshare to 77% )
Not at all surprising. Eventually, the open platform will always win over the platform that only one player uses. The iOS platform will become a niche platform just as Mac OS (X) still is one today.
If you want to own a market, you have to open your platform to other players, just like Google and Microsoft license their software to whoever wants to make hardware and software for them. Divide et impera - divide and rule. Apple never understood this simple concept.

Some many moons ago ..... a man named Steve obs said that he didn't want a "scribble thing". If for some unknown reason he (as usual) changes his mind (emac), then he would have a lot of explaining to do to old newton developers and users alike.

I am trying to reinstall OS X on my old 2006 MacBook core 2 duo. I have a leopard install disk and a tiger install disk.
On boot up, i get the chime and then it spits the disk right out.
I have made USB images of both to try to install and when I Hold down the option Key, i get the mouse cursor to come up over the white screen but the usb drive does not load into the boot-able options.
any ideas on what i can do?
What i have to help are a

I have purchased a couple of gaming PCs from Cyberpower... you get great deals from these kind of companies, but the service can be spotty.
You choose which video cards you want in the system, so it is completely up to you.
I use Tom's Hardware for their monthly gaming GPU article. The last page always compares all video cards so you know which one is better than the other.
If you are a serious gamer - there are really no better options for high performance / low price.

I've got one of these:
http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=behringer+u+control&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=5457175468360533362&sa=X&ei=5U11Te7cHseShAf1xLVC&ved=0CB8Q8gIwAQ#
Its very cheap, the inputs are just line in.
What exact soundcard do you have? And what controller are you using?
Also what do you mean by your headphones needing usb power?
By far the easiest solution is to buy a better external soundcard, one with 4 outs to enable monitoring. Sound quality will increase and latency will be reduced.
Your soundcard is affordable for me, slight problem my speakers only have a 3.5mm input cable :/ same as headphones. How would the cabling work on your soundcard?

The current MacBook I have is the 2008 unibody. It was the initial launch unit for the switch to the aluminum casing.
But I see your point. And as I previously said, the iPad isn't a replacement, but more of merely an interim solution, and a chance to purchase something I was in the market for to begin with.
I would really appreciate some input on how to go about doing this. Believe me, I hate wasting money just as much as the next person, so I appreciate the concern. But I feel confident with my decision thus far, and hope to remain so.
So if anyone has any advice for how to do this transition best, it would be much appreciated.
Well then if you aren't going to be doing anything that you need a computer specifically for, go ahead and sell the MacBook; only if you know for certain that you'll be able to get another, better computer down the road within a limited amount of time.

@AlphaDogg - OF COURSE they could see the logic board corrosion when they went to replace the inverter board and the display. The logic board is the MAIN component in the machine and manages the display, among other things. They have to detach the display cables from the logic board before they start replacing any other components.
But aside from that, I have heard many stories about water spills being the best sort of spill you can have with your Mac. Sometimes it my dry out if you quickly discover it and leave the machine out to dry and other times it might not.
hminks, try turning on the machine after a day in the cupboard (definitely don't want to cook that thing out in direct sunlight). If the machine still isn't working, then your logic board may be kaput, as well as some other components. But that doesn't necessarily mean that your hard drive is gone so all your documents may be recoverable.

One of the cultural phenomena which has damaged our perceptions of what is cool and what is lame.
Its not the worst offender.
Not as bad as Hip-Hop or rubbish like that.
But it's in the same breath.

I like the first one more, to me it's not obvious the other one is a roller coaster and the white apple logo works really well with the sky.
Yeah, I like both almost equally, for different reasons. I personally prefer the Volcano, hence I'm using it now, because it's subtle. I just wish a train had gone through the heartline twist for added effect.

I'm not getting the update and I manually tried to install it and it said I don't fill the requirements for installing this. Very strange. I have 10.6.6 though.

I had the same issue, the screen protector was covering the speaker. If not, try a restore. After that, the only thing you can do is taker it into your apple store.

Hi,
I never knew you could aggregate the soundcards thanks!
I just setup traktor.
I have the following setup
Cheap usb soundcard which is connected to my speakers.
Headphones coming out of my imac's built in output.

The follwing setup enables me to cue tracks through the headphones(built in output) and have the main output from my speakers(usb soundcard)

I set up F@H a little while ago then forgot about it, but no I was thinking about actually doing it but there are some problems.
I want to change the group so I am apart of the MR F@H
Don't want to have to press "c" each time for a connection
Would like it if i can get 2 cores on the go (don't know if 1 terminal window will do that)
Would like to get it to work
Here is the current output from terminal
# SMP Client ##################################################################

Tap and hold on the question mark you want to see. A dialog should pop up for 'open in' then choose photos if it is a picture, if it is a different type of file such as a PDF either iBooks or another app that you use for those.

Way to give the guy mixed messages, eh?
Seriously, though, it's a tough call. If you're really into gaming, and the titles you want to play aren't out for the Mac, I'd hold off. If you do development, or creative stuff, the current PowerMacs will be powerhouses for a few years to come, and serviceable for a long time after that.
As far as Apple supporting the PPC into the future, not only would it be suicidal to hang their pro-buying customers out to dry, they've made it so easy to support the PPC with Xcode that I think we'll be seeing universal binaries for a long time to come... possibly forever: I suspect Intel will be releasing some new chips in the next few years that aren't strictly x86, and Apple's development tools are already chip-agnostic. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some more target-architecture check-boxes appear in Xcode in the future. Different apps will be optimized for different CPUs, so you'll buy the right Mac for the job.
Hope that helps.
Cheers.
