If the rom files are zipped, then you'll want to unzip them before you try to run them.

    What have you read?

    What have you tried?

Have you read the USB Device Interface Guide?
    http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/DeviceDrivers/Conceptual/USBBook/USBIntro/USBIntro.html

Have you looked at the other references on the first page of that guide?

Have you looked at the sample code referenced on the first page of that guide?

Have you joined Apple's USB mailing list and asked there?

Been waiting in Chicago (not some small town, but Chicago for christ's sake) for way too long, we had the neighborhood wired for U-Verse for close to a year and still nothing. Seems for whatever corrupt reason AT&T doesn't want to compete and leave only Comcast (who I despise) as the only provider in my neighborhood. Hey Verizon, if want to make some more money just move into the Chicago area, then you can offer a package deal when you get the iPhone.

Hi, have got a problem with Outlook 2011.I had 3 rules set up, simply so that emails for memebrs of my family went into their own folders.

Now the rule names still appear in the list, but when I click on apply nothing happens and when I go to the rules dialogue box no rules are visible and I cant add any new ones.

Any help appreciated - only had an iMAc 2 months, so very new to Macs
    thanks

How many pages in the file? Is it not small enough to just copy and paste text into a Word file and then clean up?

It's only 2 pages, and I control the Word document and the PDF, but not the PDF->text step.

The document is my CV, and I've noticed that sometimes when I upload it to a site, they are unable to extract info from it. Today, I got feedback from two recipients that they were unable to read my submission as it was symbols and gobbledygook. That's not good.

I would still prefer to keep the file as a PDF, precisely because I can't trust Word with formatting, but if the PDF will get mangled it's pointless.

I may have found a way using ghostscript (http://j-b.livejournal.com/339214.html), but it's not installed by default and I don't have enough space on this Mac to get it from source or MacPorts.

EDIT: Just saw your edit. Using Word 2008's "native" Save AS PDF gives me the exact same file as the Print, and Save as PDF from Preview also doesn't help. The PDF-X file is larger, but still uses FlateDecode. Still on 10.6.6 due to the lack of disk space issue.

    B

Thanks for the post, you made me study this pic, again.

I thought something was hinky about this being Key West, but I dismissed it.

Now I think I can see Tampa Bay, Charlotte Harbor, and their cities, and Miami Beach.

Looks like most of Florida to me. ;)

    Ok...new thought...

    SSD for boot drive.
    RAID0 for scratch disk.
    Regular HDD for storage.

RAID0 vs SSD for scratch disk...I'm reading that SSD isn't all that great for scratch disks because the write speed isn't all that great and sometimes actually slower than a traditional disk, especially with small file changes. Plus, a 128GB SSd is around $250 whereas i already have a couple SATA drives I could use for RAID0.

So, are there any down sides to using RAID0 strictly as a scratch drive?

RAID0 is fine for scratch, but you're wrong about SSDs being slower than mechanical discs for writes. Especially for small file changes, SSDs beat the crap out of mechanical drives (pardon my french ;)).
However, it depends on what SSD you chose. There are indeed some SSDs that are not as fast as advertised (Sandforce controlled drives). Still faster than mechanical drives, though. Good SSDs write with up to 300MB/s, compared to mechanical discs with 145MB/s.

But yes, if you want to save money, a RAID0 from mechanical drives is fine for scratch. Just make sure it's backed up.

Handbrake is my favourite app for creating h.264 on the fly - even though I
know it is meant for ripping - I mostly use it to create smaller h.264
files of video-work I have to send to clients...

Lately I have come across an issue where my clients cannot play the files I
send them ?? I know they're on PC and I am on mac, and the odd thing is
that I compressed about 12 files, and 8 would open ok for them - 4 would
not... (obviously there seems to be no problem in my end, and I used the
    same preset in handbrake)

These files where all some corporate video stuff, and later I realized that
the recording format of just those 4 faulty files where different than the
others. How on earth this should affect the output from Handbrake is a
    mystery to me??

If I want to create the most generic/cross-platform type of file - what
preset is recommended in handbrake?? And is there no way to output to a MP4
file, and not M4V ?? I am thinking that M4V perhaps could cause issue on
    the windows-platform...

    thanx for any help !!

China can be a funny place. Everyone's got a cellphone, and dropping a thousand USD on an iPhone 4 is just a part of staying up to date. But a couple days ago I saw something that showed just how popular the iPhone 4 is in Apple's fastest growing market.

    http://i54.tinypic.com/10h8yh1.jpg

I was checking out the new MBP upstairs when I saw an old man in cheap clothes, worn shoes and no socks using an iPhone with the original packaging plastic kept on with packing tape wrapped around to keep it on. He was scrolling through some sort of article.

The cult of Apple stretches its tendrils to every corner of the world. You can pick clothes up off the streets, but you gotta have an iPhone 4!

<snip> This is not an RPG, more like an open ended adventure game.

In any case to answer your question, yes, Oblivion is as open ended as you think.

That actually sounds more fun than an RPG to me. :p I love adventure games, like the original Zelda, before it became overly puzzle based, and Diablo, etc.

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to have to check this one out... on a 360, though, as I have no desire to build a gaming PC or spend the required money on a Mac capable of running it via Boot Camp.

You'll have to connect your sound system using the audio/optical jack, either directly from the mac mini, or through the TV's audio/optical output, given the TV has an HDMI input that receives the audio from the mini.

Hey EJBasile, I am glad to hear that you and your girlfriend are ok after the crash. All I can say is THANK GOODNESS you were not in this vehicle when it happened!

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=151314

I think that goes along well with this thread on why vehicles need to be designed with safety in mind.
