The power4 will be a single chip - what you will get though is probably multiple CPU cores on one chip - so a quad, octo or 16 CPU core chip could be possible - to hell with 10x speed for me, I'll be looking forward to 50x - 100x!
But all this is somewhat speculation - based on some real data - the Power4 we see talked about in October might be a little different then what we expect. I've seen anything from 1 GHz to 3+GHz - single to 16 processor cores, so there is potential for some truly amazing times ahead.

Are you trying to initialize a single image with a folder? How does that work?

If we are discussing music here, start iTunes, go to the store, enter "Joe Jackson" and you will find some music that beats anything Michael Jackson has ever done.

I would say buy now while PPC is still the standard. Once the Intel machines come out then it will be harder to find PPC machines. I think you are better off riding out the first revisions of the Intel Macs on a PPC machine.

Categorization is good. I fear nobody will see those links though (and I'll easily forget...). May I suggest a dropdown menu towards the top of the page instead?

My mac is running Mac OS X 10.7.11 and it is very messed up. All system applications crash immediately and put up an error saying they crashed. My Finderbar is also messed up. Half of the icons are not showing up such as the wifi icon and bluetooth, but i can still click them and use the wifi. I tried booting from the recovery image and repaired my permissions but it did nothing to fix the problems. Anyone think they have the answer?

Hi everyone!
Well i own a Macbook Pro 2.4GHz C2D and I have heard that SSD are very good ... only that there is a problem, I know nothing about SSD.
I want a 120GB SSD only.
What do you advise? Heard of "SandForce controller" and "trim". What does that have to do with the SSD's?
Thank you! :)

Well, I'm still learning this so I might wind up taking the easy way and copy the code.
From what I can see, Categories might not work out since it's restrictive.

Ok, in closing this thread.. I have decided to go with the Quadro fx 4500 and also as a back up, I also am getting the 6600 256MB version - I really want my machine quiet and not noisy though.
But I guess a little bit of noise isn't too bad though.

If it is any consolation to those who don't have an Apple store, I live in Melbourne where we have two (and an other one coming soon?) and I've never been there.
There are Apple specialists all over the place - they're just as good, just no fancy interiors.
I reckon if apple are going to make one in the melbourne cbd its going to be somewhere amazing like the old myer building facing melb central

My early 2008 Macbook Pro just died after two and a half years. When I brought it into the Apple Store, they said my logic board had failed and wasn't my nVidia 8600GT. $1,100 to replace. I said no thanks.
I'll be needing a laptop this Sept for school and the new Macbook Pros look awesome. Is there anything about them I should be afraid of?? I don't want it to break down.
My original core duo macbook pro just died after 5+ years of daily use. The graphics card died (non-nvidia, so not covered). It would have been $900 or so to replace the logic board in the apple store, but they also have a flat rate repair that's $300 or so that will cover shipping to their repair facility in TX, and then cover labor and absolutely any parts that need replacing. I hadn't realized this was an option -- it's like paying $300 or so to have your laptop covered like it was under applecare again.
I love the 2011 mbp I'm typing on right now, and I'm sure you will love yours too, but if I could pay $300 and have a 2008 mbp working again? I'd do it. In the end I even paid the flat rate to have my original mbp repaired. For $300 I've definitely got uses for it, and it has sentimental value (I wrote my dissertation on it). I would presume that you could pay the $300 to have it fixed and then sell it for much more than that if you just wanted to help finance your new machine.
Potentially worth looking into. I'm surprised it's not more publicized as a service.

The silver border around the screen is the indicator of the Anti-Glare option you chose.

keep the machine...You will never be able to keep up with technology, its always changing. You could be waiting for upgrades that don't happen for a long time, so don't risk it, just use the FAST machine you have now.

You would probably get a quick answer in the MacBook forum (this is the Mac Pro desktop forum) but I think any office screen cleaner and lint-free cloth will do the job.
Yep. The key is lint-free, so you don't scratch the screen.

Hi,
first, determine if the OB3 drawbars are sending MIDI! if so, then in your LAYOUT editor, create 9 drawbars. you'll need to highlight each drawbar to activate/put into LEARN mode. as you move each drawbar on the OB3, you should see the highlited drawbar move. Again, assuming the OB3 drawbars send MIDI data... Let me know how it turns out... i've had my eye on getting one for a long time but none of the sellers could tell me if the '3 was sending data...

I'll be there, if I'm not working that day! Do you have to pre-order on the 10th to have any hope of getting one on launch day in store, or is there a chance of getting one on the day?

So I lost my download and backup of OS X Lion. Is it ok if I were to get it from a torrent or something? I've already sent an email to Apple, as I am part of the developer program but only allowed to redeem the code once.

Blu-Ray + MPEG2 HD, looks like vomit!!! ;)

HAHAHA. oh man, i don't even know what you are talking about. MPEG2 isn't the reason a BD looks bad or not, but good try.

You can still add Keywords easily to photos or groups of photos same as you could in older versions of iPhoto if you open the Keyword manager first (command+k). Select the photo or a group of photos and click on the Keyword from the list of Keywords. Another way is to put a check mark next to Keywords under the View menu and then use the show "Info" button at the bottom of iPhoto, this will let you select photos and type in a Keyword where it says "Add a keyword...."
