Hey everyone, I'm trying to decide on a cost effect RAID system for my Mac Pro. I do professional audio as I am a freelance composer/sound designer, and my data is very important. I currently back-up to a cloud (Which is slow, and still won't back up my OS X system data), so I have one solution, and I try to back up to other disks when possible, but I would love to have an external system that could completely mirror all of my internal drives. I posted this somewhere else, but I'm going to try and summarize what I've concluded here:
I have 4 internals. I would love each and every one of them to be mirrored to an external harddrive. This is something that I would like: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEQX2T4.0S/
It is a bit more than what I want to spend, but I think it is a solid solution. The disadvantage is that although it has a hardware RAID built into the unit, I cannot set it to mirror my internal drives (as it would actually do a RAID1 mirror within itself, therefore halving the amount of storage). This is NOT what I want.
So here is my question. Can I buy a quad hard drive eSATA RAID solution (With or without a built in hardware RAID), and use disk utility to mirror all of my internal harddrives to this new unit? My main issue is performance, easy of use, and security. I don't want reminders, I don't want to schedule a backup, I want a direct mirror at all times but I do not want it to be affecting my current work. The reason I want a RAID system is for redundancy, to prevent lost work when a drive fails. I have measures installed on my computer that warn me of failures, and I'm familiar of the sound of an ill hard drive :) In fact, I've had 3 drives recently crap out on me, but I was lucky enough to clone then in time with no lost data.
Now, since I asked that question, my second question is, do I now need a RAID card with 4 eSATA ports, or can I just use an eSATA extender from the extra eSATA port on my mother board (3,1 - 2008 mac pro)? I ask this because, if I get a solution such as the Mercury Qx2, I won't be using it's built in RAID switches, I'd have it set to see all drives and then use disk utility or something else to do the RAID.
I'm sorry if I seem a bit lost, but I've never done a RAID or have really looked into them. My work at home is less than 50% of my income, but as I've done more and more projects I really need a solid, professional solution to having redundant drives.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm doing all the research I can but if I can get a few questions answered I think I'll be well on my way to figuring out what I need! Thanks :)

I submitted this to Page 2 a couple of days ago but I haven't seen it pop up yet. I too would be all over a sandy bridge black macbook. We'll just have to wait and see.

Wow, you go out of town for awhile, come back to a hella busy store and now I have to deal with this? Your iMac shipped Ron. I am not going to tolerate allegations. Just look up my feedback on this site and ebay "rchammon". Yes, that is my store. Call the damn number and I will answer. I contacted UPS and their was a mishap at the hub. So I had to ride out their last night and repatch the label. Along with that and my store, I have had a super hard time keeping up with everything. But, I will stop and defend myself when I notice my integrity is being questioned. As for the HD it is on its way also. But, Ron, your iMac is on its way.
Good Bye.

Hi.
I'm hoping to get advice on which Adobe CS4 to get: I need Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver. However my macbook is only 32 bit so that rules out CS5 and the financial help probably won't stretch to cover a newer mac.
Can anyone confirm which version I need? I'm finding conflicting answers even on the few sites that still sell it.
I only have 2 gigs Ram in this Macbook Intel Core Duo (high as it will go - first generation) and currently have around 14 gig hard drive space. I might be able to up that by shifting stuff to an external drive. I've also considered installing the Adobe itself on one, although that too, has conflicting info.
Right now I'm running Leopard, but I have the Snow Leopard upgrade and plan to use it soon.
I know it's a bit of a squeeze, but thanks to my old Imac I'm used to juggling external drives and the like. (Although obviously a newer mac would be better.);)

Not only do you need the .ipa but if you want to install it through iTunes I think you'll need to have a cracked version. Correct?

My Wii is modded and it does not play DVD's. What I can do though is put movies onto an SD card and watch them through that. I couldn't care enough to try it but I've read about it.

When searching on google, clicking on a link then returning to google it used (on pc) to return you to the last item clicked so you could continue from where you left off. Now it takes me back to the top of the page and I have to find my place again which is annoying.
I don't know if theres a setting I need to change or something? Can anyone help please?
Thanks.

Apple can't delay the powermac much longer. It's holding back all their products. They can't release new Powerbooks until the 1.25s arrive. How would it look if you could get a 1GHZ powerbook for $3200 and the 1.25s aren't even out yet. I still say they'll be out early october.
And as for new Powermacs, expect to wait 6 months after the 1.25s are released. So for now it looks like spring time. So kiss goodbye the G5s in January becuase anyone expecting them is going to be throughly disapointed.

Does anyone know if iPhone safari automatically delete your browsing history without you doing it?
Also, is it possible to retrieve/view deleted browsing history on safari's iPhone?
Thanks a million!!

Visited a old teacher after school hours, he was famous for keeping vintage Macs in his classroom, the Apple II and Mac Classic Combo I remember him with are still present in his classroom along with a shiny new Unibody Macbook Pro. :P
However not to sure if they will be in there this year as he retired in June :(

The PS3 has one game to play. The Mac can do a million things! Get a mac. I'd wait another year till there is atleast 5 games to play before spending that much money

In a poll to find our [your] top ten national treasures (carried out by Yahoo!), the bare-breasted beauties came 6th. #1 was the Sunday roast and #2 was regional dialects, with brown sauce at 7 and beer bellies at 8.Remind me again why we Americans consider Brits "classier"? :D
