The iMac will be better in the long run. You get an incredibly nice screen, a nice keyboard, a mouse that should be thrown in the trash as soon as you receive your package, and much better hardware than you would from the Mac Mini.

I have the same issue. New 2010 Mac Mini.
When it wakes up from sleep the cursor is missing.
I I hit Apple/Tab key a few times it comes back.
It's pretty dependable. This happens about 90% of my wake ups.

I guess real estate under the ocean became too expensive and they decided to lease air-rights instead.

A) Does the problem reoccur, and
B) Don't the kidlets get really pissed off when this happens at a crucial moment? (Maybe the kidlets are more mature than I am. :D )
Yeah, it seems to happen periodically with the 'mote and nunchuck that came with the Wii, but not the ones I bought after.
They've figured it out now so they know what to do in case it happens. Pause the game and unplug the nunchuck. Is that mature :p?

Alright.
first off, hello everyone.
So I need some help.
I have a 2008 MacBook.
I'm to the point to where i could use an upgrade. But instead of shelving the MacBook and shelling out for a new one, ive decided to maximize my money and sell it. I have a buyer lined up and everything but my problem comes in with the transition.
See i plan to move from the MacBook to an Ipad. i dont own an Ipad yet, and im planning on using my sale of the MacBook to allow me to purchase an Ipad, and then once ive done that i plan on purchasing a new mac in the coming months. but i have a few questions on how to do this best.
okay. so i currently have an external hard drive. I have my entire mac backed up using time machine. so im covered there for when i move to a new mac. however, in the interim i need to know what i need to do to be able to maintain my ipad and iphone music collections and whatever.
see i have access to a PC through friends and family, so my plan is to sync my iOS devices before i sell the mac, and then using the external in order to update anything necessary (i.e. OS update, adding music, etc.) so how do i setup my external the best way? Do i partition a FAT32 portion of the drive and put all media on there that my iOS devices will use so then the PC's can access the information?
Also is there a way to setup an External HDD so that i can manage my devices without leaving a footprint on the computer? I dont expect to be doing this often, i just want to be able to do so if need be.
I also need to know how to securely remove any information left on the mac for when i sell it. i dont want to risk any of my personal things to be risked being accessed by someone else.
Sorry for all of the needs guys, but this is crucial to me. and i'd love the help!

I've been coming to this forum as a registerd user since 2004. Today, I found myself looking at this thread:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=12260325
Seems like a nice review of a nice product by Targus. And a nice link to the Amazon product page for said product.
But there's a problem.
The link to Amazon is an obvious affiliate link - which isn't a problem in and of itself, but it made me curious.
Here is the affiliate link from that thread. The 'tag=macrumors-20' part is the part that tells Amazon that if the click results in a sale, Amazon will pay a percentage of money to the affiliate with the id of 'macrumors-20'.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=ur2&camp=1789&tag=macrumors-20&creative=9325&path=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2FB004N62HZI
I have no problem with affiliate marketing. The problem I wish to point out is that this forum has rules. And the thread I'm talking about breaks those rules. If the original poster would have said, "this is an affiliate link ... if you buy, I get paid, etc." I probably would have moved along.
From the rules page:
http://guides.macrumors.com/Help:Forum_Rules
"Advertising. Using the forums for advertising, site or product promotion, or for business deals and offers. You may not make posts to promote commercial, personal, or not-for-profit websites, products, or services. Threads will be deleted if their purpose is to advertise, announce, or promote products, services, or organizations, build traffic at other websites, carry out business activities, or other similar purposes that do not benefit our forum community."
Now really, I don't have a big problem with any of this. Whatever. So someone wants to make a buck. Ok. So do I.
But here's what's really puzzling. I left a comment on the thread a few hours ago. I simply wrote, "Nice affiliate link."
I even hit the 'Report Post' button on the orginal post. Only because I read the rules & saw a violation. Sorry, for being a rat. I thought Arn would like to know what's going on on his forum. That someone might be breaking his rules -- trying to make money by piggybacking on the gobs of traffic this website gets.
Some time ago, my "Nice affiliate link." comment has been deleted. The thread is still active.
In summary, here are the facts:
1. A thread was started as an obvious affiliate sales pitch disguised as a review.
2. The Amazon affiliate ID of profit-seeker is 'macrumors-20'. (By the way, all Amazon affiliate IDs end in '-20'.
3. The thread was reported for moderation.
4. My public comment, calling attention to the affiliate link, was deleted & the thread remains active.
Draw your own conclusions.
Arn? Are you there?

I did the same thing once. Apple told me, wait till charge posts, then request refund. I also didn't use the app, and removed it right away. Once I requested refund a few days later, it was honored.

I have a G4 iBook w/Tiger 10.4.3 and the problem is that the network icon disappeared from the finder sidebar. Now the only way I can get to network is by going to GO/Network. I can not drag the icon from this finder window into the sidebar because it is an Alias.
I can get to it in the terminal window @ /Network, however that still does not solve my problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Why does macrumors.com now redirect to macrumorslive.com?
Maybe they're testing and Arn has someone with an invite to live blog next week's event???

The PDA is no more, you can fit all the good things about them in an iPod. Apple brought out the first PDA and the next thing they bring out is going to be another first......

I wouldn't recommend a pan type head for landscape photography either. Maybe it was because I only used cheap quality pan heads (the ones they put on junk tripods) but a good quality ballhead is far superior to that. Once the tension is set properly, you can simply grab the camera, adjust it on the ballhead to whatever arbitrary orientation you want, and when you let go it stays in place. No muss, no fuss, no messing with locking down 3 separate axis levers, etc. Just put the camera where you want it and it stays, period.
A pan head is most useful in video applications because you can easily pan one axis independently and smoothly, with a ballhead the panning motion won't be quite as smooth.
